Receiver wont respond to remote commands.
Firmware would fail to update ~finally got around it somehow with a later update.
Audessy multiq would hang and never finish testing~ seems to have been fixed with firmware update. did not work out of box.
Unit cooks at almost any volume~ have always used an external fan to vent around the receiver.
Receiver broken but under warranty~ no one can repair it within 600 miles.
Hello Audioholics, my 708 was working despite a few minor issues listed above. Recently the surround back rear channels have stopped working. I took it to authorized repair and they shipped it away somewhere. When unit was new, surround back channel was louder than normal, until breaking it became inaudible. I have found information of faulty 2010 Onkyo 708's. The Onkyo support tech admitted they were releasing a service bulletin and issues with the 708. The speakers on the rear channel are 10 -15 years old Infinity brand with a 7" cone, they still sound great. Would the infinity speakers break the receiver? I want the unit replaced but they are making warranty repairs. When I get the 708 back should I sell it, the warranty will expire in Nov 2012? I am assuming because the 2010 products were faulty, this 708 will never have a long life. After hearing of the numerous problems I am worried it will break again. Why wont they just replace the unit as per my request. How do I get the unit replaced under warranty so I'm not lost on a 550$ receiver. Will the repair service fix the rear channels and the issues mentioned above? Could the receiver be broken due to settings, for instance 4 Ohms or 6 Ohms and whether or not the system is calibrated properly. I never play at loud volumes for long periods of time. When I do listen to loud music, I don't push it past 85- 86 on the volume setting, and only listen to one album or just a few songs. I have used it to watch movies for long periods of time but usually have the volume set anywhere under 73.
