I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but if you run 2 subs in your home theatre do they need to be matching ?

It is ideal for them to match. The way different subs perform can make integration very challenging. The more successful of such integrations will usually employ a minidsp 2x4 to manage the Subs. Important to keep in mind is that if you have two different quality Subs the system will have to be optimized to the lesser sub in terms of output and extension.

Preferably, if different, they are still fairly similar in design/capability....but just easier with matching subs.
