Velodyne: VRP 1200 (12inch) soon to be a SVS sub :D

RTI8 specs:

Mid/Woofer 2 - 6-1/2" Diameter (16.51cm)
Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Cones with Rubber Surrounds
Tweeter 1 - 1" Diameter (2.54cm)
Silk/Polymer composite dome

Electrical
Overall Frequency Response 30Hz-27kHz
Lower -3dB Limit 40Hz
Upper -3dB Limit 26kHz
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms

1.Should i get a two channel amp to run the RTI8's and save the rest of the power for the other 5 speakers?

2. Should i get a two channel amp to bi-amp the fronts (not sure which to bi-amp the tweeter or 6 1/2's)

3. Leave my system alone because i have a bad case of upgradicus (A.K.A. upgrading)

If you have a large room (e.g. larger than 15X20X10ft), the answer is 1 otherwise 3.

What exactly is the problem? If it sounds strained, I'd get an amp. If it doesn't sound strained, then why are you looking to add an amp?

I just thought if thier is more power the cleaner the sound. Ok let me explain myself, i have and still am, an audio freak but with car audio. My rule of thumb with car audio is to double the power of the amp than the speakers then turn down the amp halfway. This gives my car a very clean sound so i translate that to home audio i would want to do the same thing. Im sure im wrong. I first got a onkyo HTIB and now im infected with the never have money again virus LOL:D:D Anyway this is why i was thinking of an amp.

i like the SVS entry levels and the SVS flagship models

e.g. entry levels = bang for the buck
flagship levels = ultimate in commercial subwoofers

what is your budget?

Svs

well that is always the question......400.00...no... 750.00 but can easily be talked into a little more. Just kidding around 500.00 to 750.00 but even that is alot for me for a sub. If i could just hear them i might save money and know what i am saving for. No where here in concord area has them at all. I only know my friend has 4 ohm SVS speaker he has in his car, and its freekin cool.

There are plenty of people in the Bay Area with SVSs. I sold my PB-10 to a guy in Oakland. You don't really have to worry about whether or not they are worth it, they definitely are.

You benefit from more power when the amp is constantly clipping the music, not by your rule of thumb example that makes no real sense, even for cars.
Maybe a new rule of thumb is in order? :D

Someone has told and showed me the difference between an amp max out
and an amp up half way. The maxed out amp (gain turned all the way up) sounded distorted when turned up loud, and then my friend put an amp with double the power in my car and turned the gain down to half way. Now the amp was not straining to produce sound. The sound was so much cleaner when i turned it up and there was noticeable difference in sound. this is why it has been my rule of thumb, so to say

An amp may or may not improve your fronts. The Onk should handle the 8s without issue, but incremental SQ improvement is a possibility. As stated, the sub will make the most dramatic improvement.

I found someone in fremont ca that is willing to let me go and listen to his SVS PB12-Plus so i am this saturday. I cant wait and guy was so nice to let me go to his house and listen. This is the model that is reasonable for my budget. Any takers on that being a descent sub?:)

Jayson, I didn't realize you were local. If you want to hear the U13 with some SDAs, just let me know when you're down in SJ.
