Jaxvon was kind enough to send me a link to Panasonic's 103" 1080P plasma shown at CeBit. Any thoughts on when 100" 1080P plasmas or LCDs will become available. Any chance they will be less than $30K?

OK, no responses yet.

Another question.... other than cost, any reason to go with a projector over an LCD or Plasma if I don't plan on using a screen significantly larger than
100"?

Other than the cost? Not sure. Maybe the feeling you get of being in a theator when watching a projector. But really, it's the cost.

I'm budgeting $30K, so I'm hoping cost won't be the limiting factor... although I have no idea how much a 100" 1080P plasma or LCD is going to cost.

30K for a TV? Can I come to your house on movie night? I'll bring the popcorn. But no more than $100 worth.

If it cost much less I'll be very happy. I'm not looking to spend that much if I don't have to. That being said, the audio end of my HT cost me $100K and the room will cost at least another $40K... so $30K on a TV is not too out of line.

I actually don't watch much TV.... but I'm always happy to have people over for some good 2 channel and 5.1 channel audio sessions.

When? When?!

I have a $1000 receiver with
$1400 worth of speakers. Another
$1500 in CDR's and DVR's. Looking into buying a
$2k projector.

$100k on a stereo?
$30K on a TV?
$40k for the room? (does this count the furniture?)

Would you like to adopt a 45 year old child? I'm already house broken. My wife is very small, only 4'7". She doesn't eat much or need a lot of room. We promise to clean up after ourselves.

Hey, as long as you are enjoying your system, it doesn't matter how much it costs.

I'd be happy to adopt a NY couple (being a NYer myself), but I have to warn you, the move out to California can quite dull after lving in NY .

I think I heard $120K-$150K bandied about for those beasts. The new Sharp 65" LCD goes for $20K.

I'm not spending that much on a TV. Maybe could get something in the 85"-90" range if I bump my budget to $40K?

Well, cost would be a very big factor. If you were watching in daytime and not much light control, that Infocus 777 has the light output, 3 chip but only 720p. The Sony Ruby discussed elsewhere here, is great if you have light control and very reasonable at $7k or a bit over, and could use a 100"x 56" screen.

based on what plasma/ lcd prices have done over the last 2 years,

I estimate that 100" plasma/ LCD will be available in 2 years for under 12K.

Thanks, I do enjoy my system. I am amazed at how good it looks & sounds. It's hard for me to imagine what something 10 times as expensive would be like.

We're in the middle of building a new house in PA right now. We'll be happily bored there. Would still love to visit and hear/see a system like yours someday. Do you ever leave the house? If so, why?

I need a job, can you hook me up with a job that pays a fraction of what you're making, and I'll probably be able to buy myself some Axiom.lol. You really must be loaded.

The major difference between your system and mine would be in the advanced room correction (TACT) that I use and my speakers (5 Eggelston Andra IIs and Velodyne DD-15). It does sound amazing, expecially if you listen to a significant amount of 2 channel and multi-channel music.

I do leave the house... but I'm happy to be at home when I can.:D

The LG MW-71py10 Plasma is supposed to go for over $50K. It'll be interesting to see where the pricing starts when it is released.

It looks like I'll have to either adjust my budget or be willing to wait a little bit longer. I think $50K would be the maximum amount I would be willing to spend on a TV.... and I would only be willing to spend that much in order to avoid having to go with a projector setup.

Why not get a really good, expensive projector!!? Look ma! No burning or severe heat issues.

Yes, there are a couple of reasons if they have not already been mentioned. For plasma, weight would definitely be a factor. I'm not sure, but I believe that most 42" Plasmas weight 60 to 70 lbs. That would mean that a 100" Plasma display may weigh as much as 5 to 6 times that much which could potentially put you over 400 lbs...

Another problem would be to physically bring it into your house. Remember 100" screen means that it is also around 60" tall. That means that getting around corners or moving it into tight areas may be impossible to do.

A third problem would be energy. If I remember correctly, Plasmas actually suck up quite a bit of energy (LCDs do less). Add to that the much larger mass, and you'll have a TV that, by itself may not be a burden on your electrical supply, but, in combination with some other audio/video equipment and you may have to ensure that your new big-screen TV has a dedicated 15amp outlet.

Wall mounting again will be a problem for the weight and size issues mentioned above.

I think everything else considered, aside from cost, those should be enough to warrant some consideration. :D
