Originally I planned to get a Marantz Sr5500, however, my budget has since doubled and all my meticulous research in that price bracket has all gone to shyte. I was thinking something along the lines of the Marantz Sr7500, but I am unfamiliar with any competitors in that price range, and any reccomendations would be appreciated.
It will power Ascend Acoustics 340's LCR, CBM-170 surrounds, M&K K-4 back surrounds and a HSU STF-2 sub in an 11 x 13 x 8 room.
I don't plan on using any seperates so a preamp is out of the question.

Excellent budget for a mid to high end receiver

If you don't mind a refurb from the mfg and full warranty, I'd recommend the HK's. (Great company to deal with - A1 customer service)

My next choice would be the B&K assuming he'd take $1000.

You can always go with the Denon 3805, Yamaha 2500, or Marantz SR8400 for quite a bit under $1000, but they are no where near the msrp of these guys.

I found a Yamaha RX-V2500 for $650 from an authorized dealer. Excellent receiver.

Hello, My name is broken record (what's a record?).
If I had $1,000 for a receiver that would be used about 50/50 HT and Music, and I wanted to stay away from used, I would give a serious listen to the Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi. It is an awesome receiver (though it only has 2 video component inputs -- This eliminates it from some people's list).

All the bells and whistles, more power than you will need in your room with your ascends. All of the certifications (THX and Air Studios), and FIREWIRE connectivity!

Actually I would get this receiver no matter the balance of HT/Music, unless I was going strictly 2 channel.

That B&K is a beautiful unit. Those Harmans seemed like a fantastic deal, and they are straight from the manufacturer. I would personally pick either over the Denon or Yamaha, but to be fair the starting prices of these units is not supposed to be anywhere near each other. Those are some nice finds Buckeye. I envy you your tough decision David LoPan.

Since it was mentioned and no one commented on it, i thought i through in the towel for the Marantz SR7500. I had the same budget (approx) as you, and did way to much research - lol. i ended up getting the SR7500 new (from e-bay) for $700. I have to say i LOVE this unit. Fairly simple to use, great fit and finish, and it sounds so wonderful. I'd have to say go with either the m&k or seeing as you are already a Marantz user, would be very happy with the 7500.

That B&K looks like a great find, too bad I can't pony up the cash in time to buy it.

Price be damned! I'm getting the Marantz Sr8500, I can't resist those DVI inputs.

I just got my 8400 yesterday, I can't say enough good things, and the 8500 looks awesome. I think that it has a better apperance than the 8400 (I like minimalist looking front panels) and it has 2 features I would have loved to get, auto cablibration and THX. Neither are make or break issues for me obviously, but they would have been nice. I think you're going to love it, congrats.

Do you need massive power? If not, why do you want to spend that much on a reciever? There are a lot of great recievers for half that.

A very good question. Do you already have speakers?

Doesn't Outlaw Audio and Emotiva have receivers in this price range? They might be worth a look as well.
