If you are sending 5.1 via analog outs of the Oppo to the Soundstage, it will not recombine the sub channel to the mains if you set it to 5.0 b/c it will ignore the sub input. I suggest buying an amp for your sub, making it active and using the sub connection. You will be a lot happier.

DD EX is louder b/c it has much more compression. If you level matched both formats you would likely prefer the uncompressed sound of TrueHD.

No I didn't try any subs but EMP acknowledged the gain is a bit high on the line level out. You can try using it, but I had better results speaker level with the Velodyne sub I used.

sounds like a problem with the digital clocking or oscillator circuit. Its either going bad or you have a bad solder joint. The 992 was a good receiver. I had it for a time but it lacks DTS and the latest surround formats. It may be time for an upgrade and sending the 992 into another room...
