I agree that most long throw woofers don't sound very good at all. Never judge a sub by the size of the surround or motor structure or throw of the driver. If it were that simple, we'd all be using car audio subwoofer drivers in our homes.

No you really need a product with line regulation like an H10 or H15. If you experience alot of brown outs, then I suggest an S15 with battery backup. I lose power momentarily almost daily and I have S15s and S20s running my entire home theater interruption free!

HT Mag doesn't look at things like: output impedance, FFT distortion analysis, SNR, etc. But its good to collect test data on products being reviewed from multiple sources to get a clearer picture of product performance.

So far Yamaha and Denon receivers do the best on my test bench in terms of distortion, SNR, output impedance, etc. I tested 2 Pioneers so far (including the model# in this thread) and the results were less than stellar in comparison. I have a Marantz SR7002 here which I will test this week...

Based on my recent bench testing of the Pioneer and my past experience with Denon receivers, I'd recommend the Denon if your looking for a cleaner amp section. Our review of the Pioneer will come soon...

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. Its more a popularity contest than it is about the music. The judges also seem to have a heavy bias against progressive rock bands which is why legendary bands like: Genesis, Yes, ELP and King Crimson will never be included.
