    EMP E5Ti or E55TI

Both the E5ti and E55tis are some of the easiest loudspeaker loads to drive. The impedance in bass frequencies is above 8 ohms which makes even modest power receivers have no issues driving the speakers. I do recommend using a powered sub for both music and movies to compliment the bass...

    FCC Confronted with Congressional Regulation

Calling Obama Ubama and relating him to communism is mudslinging as far as I am concerned. During the Bush administration, the FCC created some of the largest fines the industry ever saw attacking free speech on the radio for talk shows like Stern and Bubba. One could have connected the same...

    FCC Confronted with Congressional Regulation

Let's restrict the political mudslinging to the steam vent please. There are plenty of other websites to bash Obama or whatever elected official is in office at the time.

    Speaker efficiency vs sensitivity

Re-read this excerpt: What he is saying is two identical drivers can have exact same efficiency but different sensitivity based on how the sound radiates out of the driver. The only time sensitivity and efficiency can be used interchangeably is when the driver acts as a point source which...

    Speaker efficiency vs sensitivity

I suggest reading Paul's posting above that clearly explains the difference between efficiency and sensitivity. He is an actual loudspeaker driver engineer whom is more well versed than a EE in this field. I am a EE myself and have had no training in transducer engineering in school and only...

    2 subs and standing waves?

This article should address many of the questions in this thread: http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/get-good-bass/multiple-subwoofer-setup-calibration-1 You don't need to co-locate subs to realize the added gain. I also recommend reading chapter 13 of Sound Reproduction by Dr. Floyd...

    Transformers 3 - changes -coherent - less goof ball humour - 3D

    Transformers 3 - changes -coherent - less goof ball humour - 3D

If you take away the stupid ghetto robot twins in the last movie and the stupid parents, it was enjoyable enough as far as transformers goes. I'd personally like to see more dialogue with the robots other than one-liners. Shockwave will be a cool addition but certainly can't be more villainous...

Marantz SR6004 Dolby TrueHD & PLIIz / dts-HD AV Receiver Review

Heat sinks are pretty generic parts. The same heatsink is likely used on many different brands and model#s of A/V receivers. Marantz and Sherwood receivers are not shared platforms as far as I can see.

2010 Audioholics $1k Floorstanding Loudspeaker Faceoff

The speakers didn't sound similar. They each scored differently though our scale was a bit too narrow to reflect that. The lossy grille cloth, positional differences of the listeners and lack of experience of some of the listeners played a big role in the variability of the results.

Yamaha RX-V765 7.2 Home Theater Receiver First Look

Harman Kardon makes some nice A/V receivers now in the same price range as the Yamaha. You should look into one of those as an alternative.

Do speaker cables make even a tiny difference in sound?

Actually I suspect most people would hear MORE bass with 22AWG wire compared to 12AWG. The more loop resistance the wire has, the worse the system damping will be. The result will likely be more boomy bass and slightly decreased overall output level if wire resistance negatively affects...

2010 Audioholics $1k Floorstanding Loudspeaker Faceoff

My point is people tend to dumb down results of sighted or blind tests without doing any real statistical analysis to determine the merit of the test or its results. Several reviewers of my staff were convinced all amps sound the same so I in fact did conduct a listening test switching between...

FS: 105" Da-Lite Cinema Contour Screen $125 WOW!

I have a mint condition Da-Lite 105" Cinema Contour fixed frame screen for sale. Its less than 3 years old and the only reason I am selling is to replace it with a bigger screen. This screen retails for $1500 and has been part of the Audioholics Showcase home system since its inception. see...

Yea agreed that article was lengthy even by my standards. When comparing receivers in the same price class assuming they are all using similar amp topologies (discrete a/b) and are roughly the same weight than I think its safe to assume you are splitting hairs audibly and should instead be...

2010 Audioholics $1k Floorstanding Loudspeaker Faceoff

I disagree. The problem with two-tailed tests where the objective is to prove the null hypothesis (all amps sound the same) is you wind up with a large amount of type 2 errors which can falsely conclude there wasn't an audible difference when in fact there likely was. There can be big...

No they were side by side like I did them. As far as I know, only Harman has the rotating platform for speaker swapping. The Axiom setup was very good and I will be doing a short editorial on it early this coming week.

Its too difficult to do those type of comparison tests in this fashion. Its more practical to bench test the receivers and compare features.
