The Biggest Failures in Consumer Audio/Video Electronics History

Thanks I fixed the ordering of the DAT section. This article started out as a simple top 10 to do a YT video to generate a discussion and it just grew to what it is now.

The Biggest Failures in Consumer Audio/Video Electronics History

While we all enjoy the latest technologies afforded to us in consumer electronics, early adopters often pay the price by getting behind new formats that dry up as quickly as the cash they sunk into them. Let's take a look at what we feel to be the biggest product failures in consumer A/V...

So much misleading information " top 10 loudspeaker gimmicks"

I've never come across a speaker cabinet with a bottom loaded compartment to put sand it in that was well braced or well built. Had it been well built, the compartment wouldn't be needed. The point is still valid. There was a trend in the early 2000s where some manufacturers were offering...

    Denon AVR-X8500H World's First 13.2CH AV Receiver

Actually I bet this receiver doesn't run extremely hot during steadystate since it likely has a very low Class A bias. My Yamaha RX-Z7 on the the other hand is a space heater. Back when there were only 7 channels in a receiver, "audiophile" still had a bit of focus to these products ; )

Dayton Audio AMT Tweeter “Air” Loudspeaker Series Official Thread

The original Dayton Audio B652 has achieved something of a cult classic among speaker aficionados due to its extraordinarily low price. They were perhaps the least expensive, full-size bookshelf speaker that could be had in its day manufactured by a well-respected speaker component company. It...

StormAudio AV Immersive Sound Processors and Multi-Channel Amplifiers Preview

I have Emotiva XPR-1 monobloc amps. I prefer to run my 8T's full range off them rather than bi-amping with a less powerful amp to the satellite portion of the speaker. I've done that in my prior system but I really enjoy the single massive amp connection and it let's me flip a switch to my 2CH...

StormAudio AV Immersive Sound Processors and Multi-Channel Amplifiers Preview

That setting only copies bass from large mains to the sub. It does NOT pass LFE to the mains if a sub channel is active. No AV receiver or Japanese processor that I know of will route LFE to the mains unless you turn the sub channel off.

Most CE gear is like this (ie. DataSAT and I believe Trinnov). I am not happy about the lack of OSD but it's probably a resource issue. The advantage of speaker configurability of these type of products is something that really makes it worthwhile though.

StormAudio AV Immersive Sound Processors and Multi-Channel Amplifiers Preview

Currently I'm using a Yamaha CX-A5100 but the fact that it doesn't route LFE to the mains with a sub channel present, like most consumer gear is very restrictive for my needs. So, I'm contemplating something like this.
