Outlaw gets into making home speakers.

Very pricey for what they are giving you in terms of drivers and speaker topology.

RBH 1266SE v. Onix Reference and AXIOM 80v2 and matching centers - need assistance

Speaker choices boil down to a matter of listening preference, budget, and aesthetics. As you pointed out, the M80s vs the 1266's is NOT a fair comparision since they aren't in the same price class though the M80s in Vassallo finishes come dangerously close in price. The Onix speakers are...

    16 Genesis SACD's + bonus DVD(s) starting Mar 7

Yes, Trick of the Tail in 5.1 is almost unlisteneable. If it weren't for the musicial content, I'd likely shut it off. I haven't listened to the Redbook layer of these discs. Perhaps I will compare them to the normal CD's I have of these albums to see if its a different master.

    16 Genesis SACD's + bonus DVD(s) starting Mar 7

My Genesis SACD's showed up today! (era 1976-82) My initial impression is that they are all way over EQ'ed making them sound too bright in the top end. The worst example of this is Trick of the Tail. I understand the source material is limited, but IMO there is no excuse for this. The...

    16 Genesis SACD's + bonus DVD(s) starting Mar 7

Thanks guys. I feel bad cancelling the order since the company has been so nice to me and appears to have excellent service. Hopefully if Darly puts me in touch with Phil and the band, they can send me some extra discs. I finished my interview with Daryl but waiting for him to fact check...

    16 Genesis SACD's + bonus DVD(s) starting Mar 7

It's really hard to tell what you get with this package. Are the Bside songs all in multi channel SACD? I love the song Naminanu and its been so long since I've heard it or played drums to it. Did you order this box set? If you look carefully it says: Format CD next to the pic so I...

    axiom vs canton

Canton makes some very nice speakers. Check out our review of one of their top models. Our only gripe is their price, which b/c they are an import, is a bit high. If you can get them for 30-50% off retail, they are definately a good contender to consider IMO.

    Amazing Pat Metheny Video

You obviously know very little about Pat Metheny to be making such statements. This was not nearly his most complex song and I linked to it more b/c of his creativity in the music and the instrument he had custom made for this purpose. IMO Pat has no equal in playing or creative skills -...

Emotiva Reference Theater Series IPS-1 Amplifier Review

The IPS-1 still has independent mono block amps just like the MPS-1 but you can't slide the modules in and out. The MPS-1 would have identical SNR if you pull the limiter circuit off which is easy to do. Emotiva will instruct customers on request if you wish to do so. I mostly prefer the...

Home Gym - essential for Home theater enthusiasts

I spent over a year decking out my new home with theater equipment, and multi room audio but until now, I was missing the most important element - a home gym. Now I can listen to tunes while I bench press or ride the elliptical glider. Time flies by when your listening to your own music in...

    JBL L880 Floorstanding Speakers Review

Be careful with considering this an absolute truth. I have found many speakers claiming to be flat anechoically on/off axis tend to be too bright in real rooms and measure bright accordingly. Also, this mantra doesn't apply to all loudspeaker designs such as line array type speakers which...

So what DOES make for a good amplifier?

Its usually NOT a good idea to use pro gear for home theater. Pro gear is designed mostly for sound reinforcement - very high powerful amplifiers whose sole purpose is to produce a alot of sound at the expense of a high noise floor and overall fidelity. In a concert venue this is appropriate...

So what DOES make for a good amplifier?

That article was written to debunk a bogus spec that some receiver manufacturers boast about instantaneous current. It does NOT negate the importance of a solid power supply or an amp with REAL world headroom. I plan on doing some more articles on this topic when time permits.
