2010 Audioholics $1k Floorstanding Loudspeaker Faceoff

Time of Reconcile our Differences This constant back and forth between us, forum members and Axiom isn't productive for anyone involved. I honestly don't have it in my heart to sustain negative energy like this. I myself am to blame because I allowed it to progress on this forum rather than...

Thanks I found the 2 typos for Velodyne and fixed it. All last years tests are there too. Tab2 has 3 of the 4 tests Paul did. I kept Josh's tests for Rythmik instead b/c it was tested for multiple modes.

A Detailed Look at the Importance of Proper Loudspeaker Cabinet Bracing

The only time too much bracing can be detrimental is if the braces aren't properly sized and coupled to the panels or if there are simply too many braces and it compromises internal volume.

There also comes a point where over analyzing a situation can be counterproductive, especially if the analysis isn't accurate enough to reveal the problem. Common sense and a good understanding of mechanics will get you pretty far. I see little point it trying to justify using 1 less brace or...

A Detailed Look at the Importance of Proper Loudspeaker Cabinet Bracing

Thanks for the clarity Sean and I agree though I suspect audibility is also highly dependent on what frequency range the problem exists too. Since when is overdesigning a product a bad thing? Heck if it were, we wouldn't have Ferrari sports cars or any cars than can run a 1/4 mile faster...

A Detailed Look at the Importance of Proper Loudspeaker Cabinet Bracing

Agreed and it really depends on the cabinet size, driver compliment, and output levels sustained within the enclosure. Most loudspeaker engineers choose to stiffen the cabinet enough to push resonance out of the bandwidth of the woofer to make it less audible.

A Detailed Look at the Importance of Proper Loudspeaker Cabinet Bracing

That assumes the amplitude remains the same which it doesn't as can be seen in David's analysis when adding more braces. You also need to look at more than a single point on the cabinet to see how the resonance modes change when stiffening is added. Aside from simulations and analysis, I know...
