    Monoprice Monolith 7-Channel Amplifier Review

I doubt the AVM60 is a fully differential design from input to output especially since their STR is NOT. The Anthem engineer I spoke to prefers converting to single ended between stages as you can see in my review...

    Monoprice Monolith 7-Channel Amplifier Review

Be careful comparing manufacturer spec sheets. The output voltage you're quoting from Marantz is NOT a max rating. Their receivers can do 4Vrms unclipped so you can bet their preamps can as well. The AVM60 is NOT an upgrade in terms of analog preamp compared to the Marantz.

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

That's no typo, I lifted all 132+lbs of the POA-A1HDCI up 2 flights of steps and loaded it into my AV rack by myself. I didn't walk right for 2 days after.... I sold it as a package deal with my AVP processor unfortunately. Yes ATI is a great option for sure. Benchmark is a bit pompous. They...

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

Actual in theory, doubling the voltage would increase power 4X. However, that never happens due to power supply limitations. The MX-A5200, as well as other bridgeable amplifiers I've measured, typically switch to a lower voltage tap of the transformer when in bridged mode to prevent this. This...

Yea the top sections of the RBH speakers are an easy load for a good AVR to power. The bass sections need a good meaty amp though.

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

Most bridgeable amplifiers come with a warning like this. Remember, each amp now sees half the load impedance that it would in a single amp connection. I think this is mostly done as a precaution and probably to still maintain heat dissipation requirements for UL. I hit the 5200 into 4 ohm loads...

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

I would NOT use any of the amplifiers you mention in this most to power the bass sections of the RBH T system. That would be way too taxing on the power supply and a dedicated amp offers far better control and dynamics. I tried using the Denon POA-A1HDCI amplifier in bridged mode to power my...

You basically want the $7500 Denon POA-A1HDCI for 1/3rd the price. Definitely not going to happen.

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

Where did you get max power ratings for the Yamaha amps? I don't see that on their owners manual. The MX-A5200 is likely based on the amp design of an RX-Z11 not the 3080. Also, NEVER use the low setting on the impedance switch...

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

I'd agree the Monoprice ATI 11CH clone is a step up from the MX-A5200 but there are no other 11CH amps on the market to consider. I would still take the 5200 over the GEn3 XPA-11 Emotiva amp from what I've seen. NAD doesn't make 11CH amps.

SNR is pretty good for both modes. I'm talking about distortion and how it's impacted based on bridged vs unbridged.

Correct but the 5000 amp wasn't bridgeable either.

No an amplifiers distortion should NOT increase like this when it's bridged. Yamaha isn't saying anything. When not bridged, the distortion is good, but not SOTA.

    Star Trek: Picard

One thing that really bothers me though. With our current technology, we can reasonably predict when a star will go super nova 1000s if not millions of years in advance. How could this elude the smarter, more technically advanced Romulans of the 24th century? Writers of Sci-Fi are so stupid...

    Yamaha CX-A5200 and MX-A5200

Yamaha MX-A5200 11CH Amplifier Preliminary Measurements Found a perplexing issue on the MX-A5200 11CH amplifier. The FFT in bridged mode produces much higher odd order harmonic distortion products. I attached a plot comparing the single amp vs bridged amp modes both tested at 1 watt. This is a...

D&M just blurred the line again, should they go much further?

Yea I also asked Sound United if it were possible to reduce the voltage gain of their amp stages going forward so they wouldn't clip until the preamp drive level is 2Vrms instead of 1.2Vrms. Most amplifiers will hit full power at 2Vrms. This would clean up the FFT on the preouts by not clipping...

D&M just blurred the line again, should they go much further?

I dont think I swept fullrange past 1Vrms preouts on the 3300w. I did 1khz psweep vs distortion though which the SR8012 was able to do too. looking back, You can see it at 2vrms on the 3300w where odd harmonics are dominating the FFT of the preouts. I missed this not realizing the amp section...

D&M just blurred the line again, should they go much further?

You won't be able to turn off the amps but at least be able to break their connections to the preamp so they don't get overdriven while using the receiver as a preamp only.

D&M just blurred the line again, should they go much further?

Run a full bandwidth sweep and it will shut down your Denon. The power amp goes into clipping at 1.5Vrms even unloaded. This is an unlikely reworld scenario but on the bench it's very real. I'm asking Sound United to either have a preamp mode on ALL models with preouts or at least lower the...
