Bi-Wiring Speakers
Yes those little black boxes certainly can do something or nothing depending on whats in them. Some companies simply slap a black box on with nothing in them, other put filter networks in to limit the bandwidth of the cable (NOT a good idea) or zobels on the speaker end in hopes to restore...

Bi-Wiring Speakers
Realize that most loudspeaker and other consumer audio manufacturers for that matter wont be totally upfront about cables, because they want to keep their dealers happy. Dealers make a killing on exotic cables, some more than others. Biwiring offers very little from a performance/technical...

New Speaker-AXIOM M80ti
Biwiring a speaker only changes the load to the amplifier slightly due to different cable impedance. It will make little difference to the amp in most cases (assuming your not using some wacky high capacitance exotic cable). You should be fine driving the M80's with the AVR-3805. It has a...

Receiver Power Ratings Game
Perhaps, but its important to note that these receivers will deliver their rated power and then some in at least two channels driven simultaneously. In fact, I found the RX-Z9 delivered alot more power into 4 ohm loads indicating it handled low impedance loads very well without introducing slew...

Help with speaker cables, please
I am floored by the notion one would spend $1000 or more on a pair of speaker cables after all the articles I have written here, test data, and methodologies discussed. I am equally floored that the misconception of spending more money on cables guarantees "better" cables is still alive and...

RXV-2400 Help
If one of the drivers are intentionally wired out of phase in your speaker in order for it to properly sum at the crossover point, the YPAO system will incorrectly identify the speaker as being out of phase. My advise is to check the cable polarity at the amp and speaker side to ensure it is in...

How important is a Y connector for a sub?
Mark is correct. Just to clarify here, what you are actually getting on most subs by using a y-cable to feed the L/R inputs is input signal gain since each input is being summed before going to the power amp. You will actually get up to 6dB of voltage gain depending on how the summing is...

RXV-2400 Help
What is the configuration of your rear speakers? Are they 2 or 3 way? Don't rely on YPAO to properly set the crossover point of your subwoofer, or for it to properly determine speaker sizes. It should only be used for level and distance calibration and the EQ function should be tested on...

Characteristic Impedance in audio cables
Cable impedance really isn't that complicated. The basic equation Zo = (L/C)^1/2 allows one to calculate the characteristic impedance. At audio frequencies this is a moot point and only starts coming into play about 1/10 the wavelength. So take 1/10 (C/f) where C = 3x10^8 m/s (speed of light)...
