Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review Thread

The test data seems pretty comparible with the Z7 being more powerful in 8 ohms and 2700 more powerful in 4 ohms. This is likely due to test and product variances. 20 watt difference represents about 0.3dB difference in loudness. No operational issues that I observed. Try it as is for now...

Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review Thread

Hmm when I spoke to my contact at Yamaha he said the Z7 was the first Z receiver not manufacturered in Japan. I guess we could both be wrong. I will try to inquire and update the review accordingly. Those are nice speakers you got. If you don't plan on adding external amplification, I'd...

You should be fine since its open on all sides. Worst case you can add some forced cooling from a company called Cool Components. Good luck.

Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review Thread

Guys; Yamaha just called me and said the FW fix for the HDMI issue will be on their site at the beginning of March. This will also include another upgrade feature to be announced then. They also told me I could access the other zones remotely via my laptop so I will be testing that and...

You guys are killing me. MY review is already over 9k words. You want me to top out at 10k LOL. I will make more mention of the manual next time around though I try to give users setup tips within my reviews which is why they can sometimes be excessively long.

hmm I probably should though I am the type that files the user manual for future reference and just figure out the product as I go along. I know its not the smart thing to do but I figure if I can't operate most of the functions the product offers without it, then something is wrong with the...

Emotiva & Audioholics, mutual admiration society?

B/c unlike many other companies, Emotiva manufacturers their own amps as well as manufacturing amps for many of the more prestigious brands. That's a huge advantage when you've got the means to do so. In addition, their margins are less than most as they are more of a volume seller than the...

Emotiva & Audioholics, mutual admiration society?

There is nothing inherently special about Emotiva amplifier designs when compared to high output amps from their competitors. In fact, I am not a fan of series-parallel caps in the power supply that they do in many of their amps but I understand why they do it and they do execute very well...

Cut and paste error fixed. Thanks. I spent extensive time sonically comparing the Z7 with the SC-07. I much preferred the Z7 b/c the amps sounded far more composed and unstrained at high listening levels with my 4 ohm speakers. The SC-07 subjectively had a bit more punch in the bass but...

Emotiva & Audioholics, mutual admiration society?

There are many other sites that review Emotiva gear. Its just collectively none of them get the traffic and visibility of Audioholics. If you spend time reading out reviews you will note we clearly point out the good with the bad and also do extensive measurements which some of the time don't...

    Denon AVP-A1HDCI / POA-A1HDCI Review Support Thread

Honestly any Burr Brown DAC 1791 or higher is so damn good that I stopped caring about the model #s :) Denon has a history of using the very best DAC's in their flagship products and implementing them correctly to get the most out of them. I just wish they would stop BSing everyone with...

Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review Thread

I am happy to report after extensive testing this weekend that the Beta firmware has resolved the HDMI processing issue that I found. Yamaha will be releasing this firmware on their website after it goes through their QC department. My review will be posted this Monday, likely towards the...

    Denon AVP-A1HDCI / POA-A1HDCI Review Support Thread

Its a loaded question b/c Denon counts the + and - of each dac as 2 dacs. So they tell you quad dual differential implying 4 dacs per channel for stereo when in fact its really a pair of differential Dacs or 2 per channel. So if there really are 2 per channel, then there is a total of 24 DACs...
