    Impression 5tir's With Subwoofer

I think its important to point out that the EMP 100watt sub amp rating is a continuous power rating. Most sub companies only give you dynamic power ratings, especially at this price. I've seen BASH amps rated at 250watts before that on the bench delivered less than half that power without...

    Bi-amping EMP E5Ti's

IMPORTANT NOTICE You CANNOT bi-amp any of the new EMP products. The exta terminals are there for bi-wiring. I requested EMP take them off and use only single terminals on all their products to avoid confusion. If you biamp these speakers, you run the risk of damaging your amplifiers...

EMP E5Ti Impression Series Speakers - Unbelievable Value

A very good point. Most speakers at this price and even higher use fake phase plugs for cosmetic reasons where the phase plug is nothing more than a fancy looking dust cap and actually does more harm than good.

How to Skew a Blind Listening Test

good point. Years ago when I went to Sound Advice to audition speakers, they had them fed thru a switcher. At the time they always seemed to promote B&W over any other brand they carried. When I listened between a pair of B&Ws and Kefs, I preferred the former. Then I asked to remove the...

YAY!!! Porcupine Tree's new one drops next week!!!

I'm really diggin this band now. I realize progressive rock of the 70s (ie. Genesis, Yes, etc) will never come again, but these guys and Riverside and a select few others are the closest thing. I hope they release this on DVD-A, or Blu-ray. I play the last 2 DVD-As from them in my car all...

How to Skew a Blind Listening Test

I also firmly believe by placing multiple pairs of speakers side by side, you can cause excessive diffraction from adjacent baffles which could hamper the better speakers ability to image. I personally don't like to compare more than two pairs of speakers at a time for this reason and also b/c...

EMP E5Ti Impression Series Speakers - Unbelievable Value

Oz; Don't get too hung up on driver material especially if the drivers perform comparibly. I heard both EMP and RBH versions and they sounded very similar to me and I discussed this in great detail with Shane. Regardless, those products are now being phased out not because of performance...

EMP E5Ti Impression Series Speakers - Unbelievable Value

Oz the EMP and RBH versions of the TK towers were identical in terms of performance. Only slight cosmetic differences (including the color of the cones) existed to keep the products separate through different sales channels. While it may be true the TKs perform "better" than the new...

EMP E5Ti Impression Series Speakers - Unbelievable Value

You know I am sorry I pulled a quick measurement before boxing these up and shipping them to Tom for review. This was a 1/2 meter in-room measurement and it wasn't at 1 watt. I wanted to verify that both speakers measured similarly and that there wasn't a wiring issue in the xover. It was not...

EMP E5Ti Impression Series Speakers - Unbelievable Value

I didn't find the bass weak at all in my listening tests. In fact, I thought it was a bit too boosted in the 60-80Hz region. The nice thing is these speakers don't bottom out which is important at high listening levels with or without a sub. Aperion also makes very nice product with excellent...

Speaker Cable Length Differences: Do they matter?

Audioquest also slaps batteries on their cables that make no physical connection with the actual cable itself so one wonders if what they say has anything to do with provable science or if its based on Wild e Coyote physics :)

I can see how "First Look" in the page title and the First Look icon on the homepage next to the actual article could be confusing to people that these articles are in fact not reviews but "First Look" articles. Since we've been writing First Look articles for the last 3-4 years, I suppose...

    EMP Impression Speaker

The EMP Towers are 87dB SPL @ 1 watt/8ohms which is moderately efficient. A typical Klipsch speaker is anywhere between 5-6dB more efficient so a Klipsch speaker will play alot louder given the same wattage. However Klipsch speakers tend to have a lot more energy on the top end which some...

Denon DVD-A1UDCI Universal Blu-ray Player Official Support Thread

That's interesting since the 0/7.5IRE setting also affects HDMI output on my DVD-5910CI. If true, I am surprised Denon didn't tell me this and instead elevated it to Japan. I will go mess with the other setting and report back. Thanks. *Update* page 35 of the manual confirms your...

    EMP Impression Speaker

I pulled a quick 1/2 meter (1/12th octave) on-axis in-room measurement before I shipped my samples to Tom for review. See attached. They do have a little bass bump below 100Hz which attributes to their "warm" sound attribute. The midrange is surprisingly linear which is often not the case for...
