    EMPtek ES1010i Subwoofer Preview

I'm curious too. My sister-in-law ordered 2 of these subs for a system I am installing for her. She didn't want the HSU/Outlaw or SVS alternatives b/c she really liked the look of this sub. I will pull some groundplane measurements before I install them. I expect the HSU and SVS to spank...

    EMPtek ES1010i Subwoofer Preview

a 300 watt rated Bash amp can typically produce that rated power for a few seconds but usually not much longer. Most don't have heat sinks on them. I've spoken to engineers in the field that design subs and they told me a typically rated 300 watt BASH amp will do about 150-200 watts long term.

The amp is rated for continuous power. BASH amps in comparison are typically rated 2X passed their continuous power rating. What matters is the type of output it can achieve which we shall see soon.

Yamaha RX-A3000 Aventage 11.2 Networking A/V Receiver Review

Or perhaps the caps were not easily readable b/c they were tightly packed into the receiver so we didn't comment. I would make an educated guess based on performance than this receiver has a very similar power structure to the RX-Z7 I reviewed which had 2 x 18,000uF 71V caps.

Yamaha RX-A3000 Aventage 11.2 Networking A/V Receiver Review

Our testing is far more sophisticated than using a watt meter. We run continuous and dynamic tests per CEA 2006 as you can see in our test report of the review in question. If the receiver didn't have adequate reserves for its stated wattage, the ripple voltage would have been poor. The power...

RBH Sound SX-61/R Bookshelf Speakers Video Review

The Decimo's have a slightly upgraded Xover but all 3 speakers use the same drivers. The Decimo's have the most inert cabinet and smoothest front baffle of the 3. I directly compared the Decimo's to the 61-SE/R as I used to own a set of the latter speakers. They are very close, but the top...

    Emotiva X-Ref Speakers Preview

that's a really good question. The only way to answer is when I actually get a pair to review and directly compare the two side by side. The Emotiva's use higher quality drivers but the EMP's have more drivers for more output, especially in the mids (MTM configuration). I suspect the...

You will never find a crossover like this in an Emotiva product :D I say you can keep the magnetic grilles and wood finishes, just don't skimp on the stuff that people can't see that really affects performance- the guts inside!

    Audioholics Interview with Steve Wilson

I spoke with Steve today but it was via his Cell which had terrible delay and not good for recording. We are going to reschedule after his tour. I offered to send him this list of questions but he's not into typing responses LOL. Anyways, it was cool to briefly talk to the guy whose music I...

Here is my Question roster for Steve: Background for Grace for Drowning • Can you give us the background story behind Grace for Drowning (GFD)? (ie. What is it about?) • Listening to your music and watching the videos always leaves me with a bit of a creepy dreary feeling but I find it...

    Paradigm Monitor SUB 12 Preview

A tweeter has extension down to 16Hz too. What matters is what SPL it can reproduce at those frequencies. Everyone is on the extension race but the reality is you can't change the laws of physics (yet). What matters most is if these subs behave well under heavy stress and they have a gentle...

Speaker System for less than 2K

WE have a review of the new Outlaw sub posting in a few days. It's an awesome product and hard to beat at its price class for sure. Bass below 80Hz is not localizable. If the user is using this system for home theater, they should only set the crossover below 80Hz on the main channels if...

EMPtek Impression E55Ti Floorstanding Speaker System Review

Aperion Verus costs 2X the price of the EMP stuff and both companies are about building bang for the buck product. Of course the Aperion stuff is better but let's not throw EMP under the bus. EMP is more a direct comparison to the Aperion Intimus line or Axiom products. This product for...
