    Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 Gen2 Amplifier Preview

the original XPA2 was bridgeable too. It's not the same as an XPA-1. XPA-2 in bridge mode is 8ohm recommended while the XPA-1 is designed to work with 4ohm loads.

    Yamaha A-S3000 Integrated Amplifier Preview

I'd imagine that's rated per the old FTC method of 2 channels driven full power. 100x2/.5 + power from other components = around 500 watts. It's likely Class AB with a higher than norm Class A bias. Years ago Yamaha used to employ a sliding Class A bias. Not sure if they still do but I can...

Do Loudspeaker Manufacturers Really Make Their Own Drivers?

Good Driver companies typically have a wealth more knowledge than a small loudspeaker company claiming to "make their own drivers". There are different grades of performance and tolerances / failure rates of OEM parts. Some of the best performing and highest reliable parts are used by multiple...

    The absence of negative reviews

I've run this site for over 14 years now and NEVER been offered to "review and sell" equipment by any manufacturer. That's not something that would even remotely interest me nor would I want to even manage such an endeavor. I doubt very much that happens with any AV publication. Never heard...

    The absence of negative reviews

Preview articles are a necessary evil. We can't possibly review every product on the market and we had to have an article format to still provide coverage while also getting good SEO. Our Preview articles tend to have more info than what most AV publications call "reviews". Most readers...

    Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 Gen2 Amplifier Preview

I tend to agree that beyond a few watts of Class A bias, you're simply wasting power but there are diehard fans of Class A amplification and it does measure better. The tradeoff is heat and watts wasted but it's up to the Audiophile to decide how green they want to be.

    Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 Gen2 Amplifier Preview

Makes sense as 25% efficiency is a theoretical max efficiency of Class A and it doesn't take into account the power used for the ARM processor and other active devices in the amp. That said, the XPA-1 in Class A mode would probably dissipate more like 300 watts but you can check with Emotiva to...

Assuming 25% efficiency, power consumption at 60 watts output would be 240 watts.

Audiophile Software Roundup: The Case For And A Comparison Of HiFi Software

There hasn't been any financial ties with Audioholics website and the E-Store in years. I'm done debating the integrity of this site over an article. Either accept it or move to another forum.

Audiophile Software Roundup: The Case For And A Comparison Of HiFi Software

I haven't changed the focus of this site since its inception. I just learned to chose my words more carefully to not alienate my audience while still getting the message across. We are also more selective of what products we review. Our traffic ratings continue to grow and our business is...

Audiophile Software Roundup: The Case For And A Comparison Of HiFi Software

Umm I want everyone reading my site, objectivists and subjectivists alike. I sure hope the people at AA enjoy at least some of our content here and respect what we do. Before wondering what direction I am trying to "Steer" Audioholics, you should at least try to stay current with what...

    Towers vs Bookshelf/subs

If you had the option of selling all of your speakers in favor of a pair of T8s, I'd do it! Shane is going to be sending an SX-1212/R to Josh for review and CEA testing next month I believe. I am told the 1212/R has nearly the same output as a T8 sub would, though I'm not sure how different it...

Or just bite the bullet and get yourself some Status 8Ts and a couple of 1kwatt+ monoblocks. No need for powered subs then ;) I seriously run mine full range with LFE going to them and it rattles the core of my essence in my 6,000ft^3 room. I still use my dual DD-15+s to smooth out the bass...

Article Backlash & Followup First I'd like to thank everyone for holding our publication to such high standards. However, I've learned over the years if you're too stringent on a viewpoint, you narrow not only your audience but also the people willing to work with you. While I am a...

Tough crowd. I think this article has good merit to compare the various types of software offered. Kinda new ground for us since we rarely broach this topic. The sound quality ratings are purely subjective based on user experience so if you don't agree with it that's fine too. The square...
