    Perhaps these measurements explain...

Yep that looks about right. I did a more detailed review and measurements on the BD-1000s and found some issues: Pinnacle Black Diamond BD 1000 Tower Loudspeaker System Review | Audioholics

The Dolby Atmos Home Theater Paradox

Hi Andrew. I think I dug it off Google or our Facebook page. LOL. Can you offer some Atmos insights? Is it true manufacturers are looking at producing an Atmos Soundbar and/or a stackable Atmos speaker to go on top of the main channels? Would love some feedback here.

The Dolby Atmos Home Theater Paradox

You make good points but from what I've heard. If more channels weren't the focus than why do Atmos theaters have 64 channels and why is Dolby pushing to add height channels to an already crammed 5.1/7.1 setup? the plans for Atmos do recommend at least 7 and up to 11 channels in a home...

The Dolby Atmos Home Theater Paradox

Agreed with everything you said. Let's get 5.1 right before moving on to XX.1. Most homes I visit have very poor speaker placement, bad or no calibration, and very dynamically limited speakers. I also prefer monopole surrounds towards the back of the room in a 5.1 layout but I favor music...

The Dolby Atmos Home Theater Paradox

No, as I noted in my article, Blu-ray is limited to 8 discrete channels. They will have to either matrix the extra channels or use some sort of compressive algorithm which I'm not sure would be compatible with existing Blu-ray players.

The Dolby Atmos Home Theater Paradox

I heard about rumors of Atmos Soundbars on the way too. No joke!

AV Receivers vs. Separates: Which One Is Better?

    200 watts @ 8 ohms is 40Vrms. 40/1.43 = 27.97 20*log (27.97) = 28.9dB or 29dB, sounds about right to me.

AV Receivers vs. Separates: Which One Is Better?

The Yamaha spec is not at clipping. I measured the RX-A1010 which is a lower model than the 2010 and it did over 2.8Vrms unclipped. After years of bugging Yamaha they've finally increased the output drive of the preamp sections of their latest Aventage receivers. Score one Audioholics ;)...

AV Receivers vs. Separates: Which One Is Better?

Actually Steve plagiarized my video to write the article per my instruction ;)

AV Receivers vs. Separates: Which One Is Better?

That is a great approach assuming you pick an AV receiver that can do a clean output unclipped before the preamp itself clips. Some of the lower end AVR's clip at > 1V. It's always good to check this.

    NHT 02-ARC Outdoor Speaker Review

Good question Jotham. A 2-way speaker like the 02-ARC performs better when mounted vertically. Horizontal mounting will result in a less even response due to lobing. You can surely mount them like this if you have no other choices but they are designed to be mounted vertically for best...

Yamaha AVENTAGE CX-A5000 AV Processor and MX-A5000 Amplifier Review

The amp section of your Z11 is very similar to the amp section found in the MX-A5000. The processing power of the Z11 is very similar to the processing power of the CX-A5000. The Separates solution simply have more up to date technology and a bit more headroom due to the 2 box solution...

Yamaha AVENTAGE CX-A5000 AV Processor and MX-A5000 Amplifier Review

You're comparing a receiver to a dedicated processor. In that regard, compare to the RX-A2020 instead of the CX-A5000. The CX-A still has many advantages over a receiver including balanced outputs, beefier analog preamp section, more dsp power, etc. The closest competitor to a separates...

Yamaha AVENTAGE CX-A5000 AV Processor and MX-A5000 Amplifier Review

Audyssey still has one advantage over YPAO. The latest Audyssey algo does simultaneous calibration of multiple subs creating one correct EQ of the summed response. I'm trying to get Yamaha to offer this in the future for YPAO. Separately EQing each sub is not as effective and often detrimental.

Yamaha AVENTAGE CX-A5000 AV Processor and MX-A5000 Amplifier Review

There is no trouble. Yamaha over protects their amps for fault conditions. You will NEVER have 7, let alone 11 channels of audio producing correlated audio. see: The All Channels Driven Amplifier Test Controversy | Audioholics That being said, in the ultimate setup, I'd run 2kwatt mono-blocs...

Actually I didn't test YPAO. Tom Andry did. I'm not sure if he ever compared YPAO to Audyssey in his new home theater room. Would be interesting but it will have to wait since we sent back the Yamaha stuff last week :(

Audio Interconnect and Speaker Cable Myths and Truths Revealed

There is big money in promoting exotic cables both in retail and in advertising for AV review publications.
