    KEF Q900 Tower Speakers Reviewed

Shootouts are a manufacturers nightmare. Unless everyone ties kinda like the results in this shootout, nobody is happy. We've done our share of shootouts but tend to shy away b/c of the complexity of doing them right and potential sore losers. Our 2010 Floorstanding Shootout had a sore loser...

    KEF Q900 Tower Speakers Reviewed

It's a subjective review with a video feature. Youtube followers are a different type of reader/viewer than the average reader on Audioholics. This video has excellent information about the product and does NOT violate quality of content. Try taking a look at what some of our competition is...

Please upload articles before announcing them

Not much I could really do about it other than posting the article and then going back and adding the forum link after it's public. That's more time consuming and you're probably one of the few forum Jedi that are affected by it :)

Please upload articles before announcing them

The articles are ALWAYS uploaded before posted on the forum. The problem is it takes a good 20-30 min for the site to cache out and update to show when an article is published. When this happens to you, simply take a break, go get a snack and come back and hit refresh on your browser ;)

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

ESR is less of an issue when the cap is in parallel with the load so in this case you could probably get away with it. I'd still spend the time modeling the entire circuit in PSPICE while also running Monte Carlo analysis with all tolerances factored in. You can also use smaller value bypass...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

I understand what you're saying and yes I believe there was a bit of miscommunication going on. No worries. That being said, I always error on the side of caution and over design. That is the engineering nature in me. I will tell you this, the very best loudspeakers I've listened to and...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

This is NOT rocket science. Data sheets are readily available comparing metrics of various capacitor types showing ESR and DF vs frequency. No legitimately good speaker designer is putting electrolytic caps in series with a tweeter anymore. Those that use electrolytics often bypass them with...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

You're wrong there. Electrolytics have much higher ESR and DF. This can easily be simulated and measured. Tolerance also plays a huge role in consistency. I spent 3 years designing POTS filters in Telcom and studied this phenomenon with great detail. Be careful about oversimplification...

Bose is a brilliantly marketed company and they have a lot of satisfied customers. I discuss them briefly in this video:

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

Yes most definitely as stated in the article. I have a problem with manufacturers making claims of product superiority from their own "DBT" testing, especially when they don't reveal the products under test and their sample size of products are too small to make such sweeping generalizations...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

Let me make this clear, I am not ANTI DBT or Anti-blind testing as I stated in my article and video. However just b/c a test is done blind doesn't mean it is bias free as I've discussed. It's a pet peeve of mine when I see people abusing the scientific process to push forth their own agenda...

Thanks for that input. Would be cool to test this out and pull some measurements. Always good to keep an open mind and try to correlate science with reality.

These interviews are done in my theater room which is as dark as the Batcave, not at our HD video production studio. I admit Hugo and I are rank amateurs at shooting videos but we are trying to improve. Getting a lighting kit and ext mic for next interview to improve. thx.

I just added this section which is open for debate of course. Drawbacks in Running Mono Speaker Tests? It is our understanding that Harman runs mono single speaker comparisons using positional substitution so that each time a speaker is switched, the competitor product is placed directly...

Dr. Toole read the entire article and redlined it and contributed in many areas. He may not agree with every point I made but overall he liked it. The fact that he still converses with me and ALWAYS offers his editing services at no charge speaks volumes. I prefer to keep brand names out...

Loudspeaker Myths: Separating the Scientific Facts from Science Fiction

I apologize about the evolution thing from many years ago. I didn't even know that BS religious movement of ID until that came up in our threads. What a bastardization of science that is! I'm not sure about the reputation points you earned. I don't police that. I let our mods do it.

You earned that reputation based on the forum community giving it to you. If you don't like it, maybe you need to change your tone in your posts. You bring some valid points in this thread but you're tact is a bit lacking. It's possible you need a little vacation from the forum to cool your...
