    SPL's and hearing loss.

When I was young (late high school-early college), I went to a lot of concerts. Most were seriously loud. My last one was Blue Oyster Cult, and my ears didn't stop ringing for three days! I haven't been to a concert or club since.:( FWIW it is possible to enjoy trance music without chemical...

Thanks for the help...see what I got!

If you want speaker wires/interconnects locally, go to Lowes or Home Depot. Get 14 gauge wire if your runs are long (say over 25 ft.), otherwise 16 gauge will do, and no the brand doesn't matter. Nice system.

    Cambridge Audio

During my last bout of upgradeitis, Cambridge was one of the brands I considered (for an integrated and a CD player.) I ended up getting a pair of Denons instead, paid a lot less, and think that the sound quality is excellent (though not so much the build quality.)

What did you watch this weekend?

A couple of episodes of Star Trek (the original series.) The final episode of Planet Earth. An episode from SNL season 1.

    Denon 3930CI Analog Sound Quality

I have the Denon DVD-557, and I use it exclusively as a CD player. It sounds great. Remember, Denon uses the excelent Burr Brown DAcs.

    Don't want to get evicted

This fits in well with my thinking. If I say "hey, is my bass too loud?" and they say "yes.", then what. Better not to call attention to it. I already don't play music or watch movies except between 8:00 am and 8:30 pm.

    Don't want to get evicted

Funny thing is, if I did have a house I wouldn't play my stereo or HT any louder. I am quite comfortable with my present listening levels.

Nice thought. (Not gonna happen, but a nice thought.:D)

What to watch First - Help!!

I greatly preferred the David Lynch movie of Dune. I had forgotten The 13th Floor, that one was entertaining and would be worth seeing again. Dark City ranks among my favorite SF movies.

    Don't want to get evicted

A house that I could afford would be a piece of junk in constant need of maintenance, and probably in a scary neighborhood, besides.:(

    How to biamp?

If I remember right, that line is from Dodgeball?:)

    Don't want to get evicted

Nobody has said anything yet, but I have only had it since Friday. The audible difference between playing it at 1/10 and not using it at all is quite substantial, so I feel that this is enough to get the benefit of having it in the system. 2/10 sounds loud! (Boston suggests 4/10. This makes me...

Happy Birthday - Compact Disc Turns 25

I remember my first CD player too. It was a Sony Discman. I sold all of my LPs and my turntable almost immediately, and have never looked back. I don't foresee a day when anything else will ever be my primary music source.

    Don't want to get evicted

I have been in my apartment for about 6 years and have never had any issues with neighbors, even though I play my stereo at a level that seems pretty loud to me. This weekend, however, I bought a 10" sub (Boston XB4) so I am a bit concerned. I have placed it near the end of the half-wall that...

    How to biamp?

I tried the biamping. I didn't hear much difference, and it didn't give me the stronger bass I wanted. I concluded that my VR2s are a bit bass-shy, so I added a 10" Boston sub. I have had less than positive experiences with subs in the past, but I am happy with this one. The sound is now very...

Your Reference Disc - Music Style

The day after I bought the first Celtic Woman DVD, I ran to buy the CD, all of the solo CDs, and tickets for a live concert near me a month later. I have gotten everything new from them since then (including all the stuff by Haley Westenra, their newest member.) When my parents watched the DVD...

Your Reference Disc - Music Style

You are right, we are opposites in that regard. I am much more of a polished, professional, high production values kind of guy. Alan Parsons, Steely Dan, Spyro Gyra et. al. are my kind of music. Even in my metal days, I preferred tight acts like Queensryche to loose ones like Motorhead. On the...

Is your older receiver or integrated not powerful enough for you? SUPERCHARGE IT!

Sheesh, I hate advertising BS. The thing is a monoblock, so why not call it a monoblock instead of a "supercharger"?
