a link suggesting vinyl surplanting CD
Nothing has "killed" the CD format. It is very much alive and well. For proof, check out the immense selection at your local Best Buy (not to mention Amazon.) On those rare occasions when vinyl sounds better, mastering is the only reason (the idea of digital somehow failing to capture all the...

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but.....
Just one more of the many valid reasons for impeaching the idiot in the Oval Office. (Now he wants to spend even more billions attacking Iran for no good reason.)

Tossing dog off balcony gets man 3 years in jail
Agreed. Jail isn't much of a deterrent for someone willing to commit atrocities like torture. Knowing that he will be subjected to the same fate might be. (I say "might" because it's hard to be sure what will or will not effect insane people.)

audio limits of hearing vs audio formats
I was, of course, referring to sound quality. Multichannel is a separate issue, and yes it requires a different format. (I love multichannel for movies, but prefer stereo for music.)

Long term reliability of $500 receivers
I went back to using a 15 year old, secondhand Carver integrated after my 2 month old Denon receiver started acting up.:( The Carver works flawlessly. Go figure.

question db
The sub might be recieving only the LFE channel. This means that with DVDs, where LFE information is present, it is active while with TV signals it is not. Do you have bass-out set to "sub" and the crossover set to around 80hz?

He deserved it (Morris, not the dog.)

Commercials
Like a couple of others here, I quit watching TV several years ago, and commercials had a lot to do with that. Now I only watch DVDs. (I watch several TV shows-on DVD.:))

Soundstage speakers
The last time I checked, JBL was still making an entry-level line (the Venue series.) I would be surprised to see decent speakers even more affordable than those.

Thinking of upgrading to seperate Amp
On most recievers, that is a very low volume (I typically play mine at -25 to -22, and I like it fairly quiet.) Sounds like power is not your issue.

Where to Invest First?
I agree. In fact, even more (say 70%-80%) on speakers would not be unreasonable.

Best female voice
Since you love her, you should try Celtic Woman. They are even better. They do a cover of Orinoco Flow that I prefer to the original. Three of their singers (Lisa, Meav, and Haley) practically make Enya sound like an amateur by comparison.

You wouldn't have to travel if you ordered speakers online, tried them at home, and sent them back if you didn't like them.

Question About Speakers. Re: Number Of Drivers
A lot of variables effect the performance of a speaker. The number of drivers is just one of those variables, and not the deciding factor.

I understand "not willing to expend the time, money, and/or effort to audition", but not able to audition? How can you not be able to audition (especially speakers available online)?

I made a huge mistake. I listened to some Wilson Audio speakers...
Agreed. Sure, they are great-sounding speakers, but no speakers are that great. I can't help but wonder how much the OP's perception of their sound was influenced by other factors, including looks, price, reputation, room treatments, etc.

audio limits of hearing vs audio formats
No surprises. I have known for years that the playback capabilities of CDs surpass the hearing abilities of the human ear, rendering "better" formats rather pointless. (In fact, cheap CDPs are already beyond that threshold, so there is no point in buying a more expensive one.)

Audiophilia and the Playstation 1
If you were to disguise an expensive CDP and a cheap one by putting them in a cheap-looking box and a fancy-looking box, respectively, the nicer-looking one would almost certainly score higher in a sighted listening test (all other variables being carefully controlled, of course.)

Emotiva Bias?
Perhaps, but consider this: Their only receiver costs $1300. That would buy one heck of a high-end model from a more mainstream brand like Onkyo or Yamaha. It is also a lot more than most people need (particularly if they are using reasonably efficient speakers.)
