    Denon 3805 crossover problem

He wasn't sure He said he wasn't sure if the slope was 24 dB down and 12 up, or the opposite. I didn't query further, since that level of detail isn't of practical value to me.

    Denon 3805 crossover problem

Yes... When the 3805 sets the speakers to SMALL, then everything below the chosen crossover point goes ONLY to the subs. If the speakers are set to LARGE, then and only then does the 3805 give you the choice of sending low frequencies to either the sub OR sub+L+R.

    Denon 3805 crossover problem

crossover slope... I talked to Denon tech support and they confirmed what you said about the crossover being sloped rather than sharply cut off. I forgot about that :)

    Denon 3805 crossover problem

Even though all speakers connected to my Denon 3805 are set to SMALL, subwoofer is set to ON, and the crossover point is set to 80 Hz, I'm noticing that my front speakers (Kef Q7's) are trying to play tones well below 80 Hz. I found this out when using the Rives Audio Test CD (which I won on...

    D-Link Media Lounge

I have this unit and it works great for transmitting audio (haven't tried video, but be aware that it won't transmit copyright-protected video material, such as a DVD that's playing in your pc). I use the Media Lounge's optical connection to my receiver, so I have no opinion concerning the...

Does anyone own the Telarc 1812 Overture DVD-A or SACD?

I saw it performed outdoors by the Pittsburgh Symphony at Point State Park. This park is at the intersection of the three rivers that pass by downtown Pgh. There were artillery guns stationed across the river, high up and on some cliffs. The cannons simply drowned out the orchestra when they...

Does anyone own the Telarc 1812 Overture DVD-A or SACD?

find another 1812 The Telarc 1812 CD or SACD is a way to demonstrate the available dynamic range in eithee medium, but that is its only positive attribute. The musical performances on the disc are tepid and not particularly well recorded. Surely there are better options!

Denon-3805 and OTA HDTV 5.1 audio broadcast

I don't have HDTV, but I do have a Denon 3805. I've found that the best listening format for 5.1 varies with the program. For music-only programs (e.g. the Grammies), sometimes there is too much info in the center channel for Dolby Prologic II Cinema; on those programs, switching to the Music...

need recommendation for inexpensive SACD player

That's my situation; I like classical music and I have a number of classical SACD's that I listen to on my home theatre setup. However, I also have an audio-only 2-channel setup (Carver Amazing original edition, Carver m1.0t & CT-7) that needs an SACD player so that I can get the best out of...

need recommendation for inexpensive SACD player

Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive ($200-300 or less) SACD/CD player that has good sound? For this application, I don't need DVD playback (it can have DVD capability, but it won't be used). Also, it will be used in a 2.0 system, so bass management isn't needed. A currently available...

Carver Service Center is closing soon

The new corporate owners of Sunfire (Elan Corp.) have decided to close down their Carver Service Center as of March 31. When I called today, they said they were accepting new repair work through March 15, but another caller was told that they are turning away new work. See the following link for...

Need STEREO receiver with subwoofer output

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced stereo-only receiver that has a subwoofer (line out) output? I want to power a sub/sat system for stereo listening, but I don't need 5.1. Is there such an animal on the market? I don't need a lot of power, either; the speakers will be reasonably efficient.

Meaning of "Q" in Denon 3805 EQ measurements

After running the Auto EQ procedure on the Denon 3805 receiver, the results can be displayed as a series of 8 equalization adjustments per speaker. These results are in 3 columns, Freq, Q, and Gain. Can someone please explain what "Q" means here, and what difference it makes when the Q is...

Sonic Benefit 50% Budget 35% Aesthetics 15% You don't want a room that's an eyesore, so aesthetics should count for something. However, what's the point of the whole room-treatment enterprise unless you get the most improvement for the money. However, not being Bill Gates, the...

    Compensating for hearing loss

Has anyone ever had an hearing test done by an audiologist, and then used an equalizer to adjust their speakers to compensate for measured hearing loss? If so, what did you notice? I suspect that for older audiophiles, or those among us who have listed to too much loud music, there are people...

    Optical, Coax, 5.1 Analog Output?

how to hook up If you use either the coax or the optical connection, then the digital audio signals will be sent to the receiver and then converted to analog by your receiver. Both will produce the same results. However, if you use the 5.1 connection, then the Oppo DVD player will convert...
