    Which Das Boot?

Avoid the "original uncut version" The "original uncut version" is the entire TV miniseries, but the picture and sound quality are FAR inferior to the "director's cut." It's a huge difference. The director essentially remade the entire soundtrack, except for the dialog tracks, when putting...

    Osd Issue On Denon 3805

that's the way it's suppsoed to work I bet you didn't have a component video input on your old CRT, right? I have a similar setup. When the LCD TV is getting a progressive scan signal from the 3805 via component cables, the on-screen display from the 3805 doesn't appear onscreen. However, if...

    obscure subwoofers

Nothing against those brands (I haven't heard them), but there are some other good subwoofer brands which actually aren't all that obscure. For example, M&K (http://www.mksound.com) makes excellent subs in a variety of price ranges. I have one and I'm completely satisfied with it. Unlike some of...

Opinions: Marantz DV-7600 vs. Denon 3910

Hdcd?? I already have it on my Denon 3805 receiver, not that I can hear any difference that it makes. Can anyone?

Opinions: Marantz DV-7600 vs. Denon 3910

Any opinions on the comparative quality of these units in playing CD audio, DVD's, SACDS's? What does Denon give the buyer that's worth twice the price?

    Everyone held back by WAF

not everyone is having marital trouble It's not my attitude, either. We've achieved some livable compromises with some difficult-to-place rooms and equipment (e.g. Carver "Amazing" speakers).

    Avia or Digital Video Essentials

Discount on test discs I bought my copy of AVIA on eBay (new) at a discount, and I just found 4 or 5 new copies there that are selling for $10-12 below the price manufacturer's website. I didn't search for the other test disc...

    Everyone held back by WAF

everybody's marriage is ok?? The following quotation (from an earlier post in this thread) certainly left me wondering about that: "Buy what the hell you like & tell her to live with it. You can compromise on every other house related purchase but not the stereo rig. Women in general just...

    Avia or Digital Video Essentials

not exactly... Each of the basic video adjustments segments has 3 tracks, the first being the narration and demo, and the other two tracks (which are identical) showing the test pattern. When you push the "last track" button on some DVD players, it goes back to the beginning of the track that...

    Everyone held back by WAF

from a marital therapist I treat lots of couples. In my experience, the so-called "Wife Acceptance Factor" (a sexist concept in itself!) often means that the couple needs to find a negotiated solution that will meet both of their needs. "Negotiation" means everybody gives a little! If two...

    Avia or Digital Video Essentials

AVIA problems can be overcome! I bought the AVIA disc. The first few times through, I listened to the explanations for each of the basic video settings, and finally I took notes on what to look for as I make each of these settings. Now that I have my "crib sheet," I simply push the "skip to...

    Denon 3805 and 2910 (or 3910) questions

Yes, Macca, thanks for mentioning this; I didn't realize this was the case. From posts I've read elsewhere on the internet, it sounds like as soon as the listener adds room EQ and/or bass management on the 3805, then the incoming D-link digital signal gets converted from DSD to PCM...

    Denon 3805 and 2910 (or 3910) questions

I have a Denon 3805; I use it for SACD, CD, and DVD playback. I'm considering the purchase of either the Denon 2910 or 3910 DVD player. It's my understanding that I need Denon Link Third Edition to transmit SACD audio to the receiver digitally. D-Link would do better than an analog connection...

    odd recommendations from Mapleshade

Yesterday I received a catalog in the mail from Mapleshade, an audio products company that I'm not familiar with. They sell (and make, I think), solid wooden bases for audio equipment, various kinds of metal spikes, speaker cables, etc. I don't know anything about their products. The catalog...

    "bright spots" in LCD RPTV's

Thanks for explaining this so clearly! For me, this is not minor, but extremely noticeable. So your answer has me convinced that I should not consider any RPTV's, and therefore I'm considering LCD sets (especially JVC's 40" unit with native 1080 resolution) as well as plasma.

    "bright spots" in LCD RPTV's

Several times I have noticed in bright white picture areas on LCD rear projection TV's that I am seeing a bright spot that looks like an illuminated window screen. Most recently, I saw this on the otherwise excellent Sony 60" SXRD set. So is this the result of a poorly adjusted set, or is this a...

Opinions? JVC LT-40FH96 vs. Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1

These are both LCD sets, with the JVC rated for 1080p and the Sony at 720p. Leaving aside the upcoming hi-rez discs (I'm going to wait out the format war), which of these sets does a better job with (1) DVD's and (2) standard (not HD) TV signals? My progressive-scan DVD player doesn't have an...

    Denon 3805 crossover problem

it should be easy On your remote, next to the SYS SETUP button, is the ROOM EQ button; just press it repeatedly until the dial on the 3805 reads "Room EQ: Manual" (this will also show up on screen if your TV is on). You can also flip open the covered collection of buttons on the front of the...
