try using a small dab of blue paint over the lights. You will still be able to see them, but they will just glow slightly aqua and not be so disturbing.

Headed out to a friends house doing around 50-60 on a backroad that i know well and wasnt paying real good attention and thought i saw a deer (was a mailbox i guess) and i swerved and the back end came out so i corrected and was almost back straight and the back came around enough the other way...
