Alas Andrew Jones has finally done it? He designed a concentric loudspeaker that can play loud?!? Andrew Jones and MoFi have launched the SourcePoint 10 loudspeakers ($3700/pair). The SourcePoint 10 is a large 2-way stand-mount speaker featuring a 10-inch concentric driver and 91dB sensitivity...

Dirac New Spatial Room Correction Software

Wow you come off very aggressive and sure of yourself. Of course the best use of ART would be with 4 subs and all fullrange speakers and of course not everyone will have that. But you dismiss the new system as useless otherwise is obtuse especially since nobody has 3rd party tested the efficacy...

Revisiting the Legendary Acoustic Research AR9 4-Way Loudspeakers

In 1978, Teledyne Acoustic Research introduced the AR9 (initially called the “AR-25”), a brand-new, technically advanced four-way loudspeaker system that was a radical departure from the firm’s familiar bookshelf-type loudspeakers—well-known to music lovers and audiophiles for many years. Now...

Dirac New Spatial Room Correction Software

You don't need 8 independent subs. You can always add bass modules to each channel or use full range speakers. I see Dirac ART as a supplement to good room treatments and reduction of big bulky bass traps.

Sports Enthusiast Cord Cutters Big Losers in Streaming World?

It used to be you could watch most professional games via standard cable channels. Between the networks and ESPN you have most of your bases covered. Now it can be difficult (especially for cord cutters) to even get local games without hefty upgraded subscriptions. What does this mean to sports...

Invisible Subwoofers with Deep Bass and No Box

In-wall subwoofers have traditionally been thought of as sonically compromised. But in recent years, manufacturers have started taking in-wall subs more seriously. While big-box subs still offer the most room-shaking low frequencies, some of the best in-wall and in-ceiling subs have taken the...

GENE!! What are the outriggers you use for the SVTRS??

I complained about the speaker being unstable with just feet so they came up with the outriggers. The fancy metal cones and caps is part of UNRIVALED and you can probably order it.

Did Dolby Surround (1982) implement a centre channel before Dolby Pro Logic 1 (1987)?

Nothing was discrete until Dolby Digital 5.1. Dolby Surround was 4 channel. Prologic introduced nondiscrete center.

Stick with 8 ohm rated speakers. That particular Yamaha doesn't play well with 4 ohm speakers.

Marantz SR8012 - Really disappointed with sound quality

It's actually more like 100wpc x 7CH driven. I believe I had the SR8012 plugged into a non dedicated outlet when I tested by accident. I retested the 8015 and got higher power for that reason. But good points.

ASR review of Pioneer VSX-LX505 (Onkyo RZ50)

No I don't think Audioholics has a cult following. Most of our audience is pretty pragmatic but reasonable. We use measurements as a guideline for good housekeeping rather than declarative product superiority. We debunk snakeoil nonsense but also respect if people like the jewelry aspect of a...

ASR review of Pioneer VSX-LX505 (Onkyo RZ50)

It was a tongue in cheek comment but my experience at ASR shows some truth to it. While Amir may be more open to performance not being boiled down to a single metric (aka. SINAD), many of his disciples seem to think otherwise. Similarly how some think they can judge absolute performance of a...

ASR review of Pioneer VSX-LX505 (Onkyo RZ50)

The FTC won't do jack squat. I already created a call to action to the FTC and had petitions signed to uphold the 2CH amp ruling. We even had the fellow chair of the FTC comment on this. I love how ASR thinks they discovered something new that we covered years ago. LOL. Again, the nanny...

ASR review of Pioneer VSX-LX505 (Onkyo RZ50)

I've been battling this with Yamaha for decades. Onkyo we have almost no direct contact with so that's more challenging. Bottom line is these Japanese companies tend to be extremely concerned with reliability above all else. They want to minimize field failures and product returns. Atmos made...

Reality is this is more a bench test issue than...
