CEDIA 2005 Show Coverage Official Support Forum

I appreciate all the hard work you guys are doing for us there in Indy. I'm enjoying the coverage immensely. I really like the look of the new Energy Con. Refs., beautiful speakers. Did you have a chance to hear them, is a review a possibility? I'm also very excited about the new features...

    More volume!

The db you see on your receiver is a negative measurement to the 0 or reference position. So as you move closer to zero you are indeed increasing the number value. Think about it like this, -3 is a greater value than -4. As for your volume problem, it is hard to diagnose without knowing more...

Eric Clapton – Back Home Dual Disc Review

Brothers in Arms didn't sound bright to me. My only gripe is that the MLP 5.1 mix is inconsistent. On some songs all lead vocals are entirely in the center channel. I favor vocals which are blended some across the center and mains, but otherwise it's pretty darn good. I expected to hear a little...

I'm about to buy this - Advice please!

You might also consider several of the speaker options that Ascend Acoutics offers which would work great in your application. I found that they match more seamlessly across channels than do the Axioms. Also if you are interested in SACD music you'll lose that by going with the Oppo unit, the...

best way to mount bookshelf speakers

If your speakers have threaded inserts (not sure if yours do or not) you can use several different speaker mount designs which take advanatage of them. If they do not, there are also speaker mounts that clinch the speaker from the sides or from the front and back so you don't have to put holes...

Eric Clapton – Back Home Dual Disc Review

Unfortunately, it is just something you have to research before you buy. Some do, and some don't. For example 'Back Home' does not include a DD mix on the audio portion, though it does have DD 5.1 on the 20 minute video portion. I recently purchased the Dire Straits - Brother in Arms Dual disc...

Eric Clapton – Back Home Dual Disc Review

DVD-A does not use DTS or Dolby Digital, instead it usually uses Meridian Lossless Packing or MLP (sometimes called PPCM ). The compression techniques with MLP differ from Dolby Digital and DTS which use "lossy" compression. Lossy compression discards elements of the signal which are thought to...

    more power

The Polk CSi5 and RTi's boast 90db sensitivity. The 3805 can biamp to 240wpc using 5.1, and 120wpc otherwise. Unless your room is very large it would seem the power you already have is sufficient. I'd hate to see someone spend a chunk of change on amps and then realize that it did little to...

Enter to Win: FREE DVIGear DVI+HDCP 2x1 Switcher!

I would expect a switcher to have a minimum of three inputs. Keeping the price very reasonable would be a big concern. If the price gets too high it makes more sense to just go ahead and upgrade the preamp or receiver instead.

    Old Pioneer Receiver Question...

    1. The rear left and rear right are positioned on the same side as your main speakers. (Left on the left, right on the right as you face the front of the room) 2...

Universal DVD players for music playback??

At this point in the product cycle, you can expect CD playback to be of high quality in universal players in the + $300 range. You might get say +2% more performance if you spend $700+ on a standalone CD player, but the cost increase outweighs any peformance increase IMO.

    CD lens Repair question

Try unplugging your player for around a half an hour then plugging it back in and see if this helps. I don't have any scientific explanation for why this sometimes works (some have said static charge build up???, but it could be any of a number of things) and see if the discs will play...

The problem with Hollywood "Halo goes Hollywood in '07"

I never even mentioned ownership, and fail to see any relevance to what I said. No matter who had the rights my point was that there are few comic based movies that are respectable, i.e. any good, and many of these comics have been around since the 60's or longer, i.e 40 yrs. +. So of the few...

The problem with Hollywood "Halo goes Hollywood in '07"

I don't really mind some of the comic based movie sequels since a number of them waited 40 years or more to get respectable treatment. Hulk and Punisher are still waiting unfortunately. Anyone know if Fantastic Four was any good?

Reinforcements? This argument is nearly 5 months old pikers. C'mon, let sleeping dogs lie.

    No Way Bombay

Have you ever tried to speak with a company that outsources their customer support to India? I'm no racist and have nothing against the very wonderful citizens of their nation, but I cannot understand a word of their so called English. This is particularly frustrating when you are speaking about...

    New Chiclets

I would concur. I think there is a certain art to his madness. I see his posts as poetic streams of consciousness that require some use of abstract thought and a tolerance for 12 year old humor. I identify because I have ADD, I'm left handed, and have a funny bone that requires little prompting...

    THX receivers

Please feel free to correct any of the following as I do not claim to be an expert on the history of THX or all of its developments and implementations: My understanding is that THX was introduced in large movie theaters where it was necessary to provide a good surround experience for each...

    Sin city is absolutely amazing.

A talking pez dispenser, a prostitute assassin, and a yellow pedophile...hmmmm.... It was unique, and thought it captured the comic as intended but it's not a movie I'd rave about.
