My A/V gear currently consists of 'discontinued' models, is it worth keeping them connected to the internet for firmware updates? To reduce wiring and clutter I'm thinking of taking everything 'off the grid'.

I've watched Gene's video about connecting multiple subs and this question arose; My Yamaha RX-A1020 has 2 LFE outputs for subs, meaning I can hookup 2 subs. If I want to hookup 4 subs, can I use processor-side Y-splitters on both those LFE outputs thus being able to hookup 4 subs?

I seem to remember this accessory came with a VHS or other device purchased long ago, what is it used for? No identifying marks on it.

Connected to my computer is an AudioEngine D1 DAC, it has RCA outputs. I'm thinking of connecting a power amp to the D1, then bookshelf speakers to the amp. The power amp has RCA inputs. (Niles SI-2100) I'm trying to go beyond the 20 watts my computer speakers provide (Bowers & Wilkins MM-1).

Has anyone used this player? I've read reviews and it seems good, are the separate HDMI paths for audio and video any better than the usual one HDMI path?
