Do I need a seperate amp?

If it works don't fix it. This is the technicians rule. In your case if you're happy don't change it. That is the rule to keep away upgraditis. I think all of us idly think of changing this or that in the quest of better sound. The more mature learn to control this, at least some of the time...

    Home Theater Product Buying

I guess I'm just old fashioned. I have to hear a piece of equipment preferrably in my listening room before I decide to buy. I have been at this hobby for a long time; since 1967, so I have a lot of background to rely on. In the past few years I've been either building my own gear or modifying...

GFA 555 or Mk II ?

The MKII is a small improvement over the original GFA555. All the amps that Adcom has made are an especially good buy on the used market. As you said they last forever. The also have no problems with weird loads (>4 Ohms) or strange capacitance. Several of my audio buddies use Adcom amps to...

    Downgrading due to WAF!!!!

Although I'm twice married neither divorce was because of my audio hobby. I did make damn sure that they both knew of my passion prior to marriage. My second wife was ambivalent about my audio thing but knew that it was something that I would not give up. The first wife played music louder than...

    Bose are good

BLOSE may not be the worst there is but it is right at the top of the list of worst for the money. If you want worse maybe those white van speakers are. Even then, I'm not sure if they're worse than BLOSE.

    Question about Speaker brands

Brand names are not all that important. Any well known speaker can be good or not. The only way to tell if a speaker or brand is any good to you is to actually listen to the speaker. Talk to your friends. Listen to their speakers. Go to A/V stores and listen to their speakers. Talk to other A/V...

MP3 encoding rate for best quality

I experimented with the popular compression schemes and have concluded that for my ears and critical listening I don't want no stinking compreession. As far as background non critical listening goes, MP3 at 256Kbps is the minimum acceptable rate my ears can deal with.

Impact Acoustics Contest Giveaway June 2005

Refer a friend. Are you kidding. I've been referring people to good sound since I put together my first rig in 1967. I am proud to say I've infected numerous people with audiophilia nervosa.

    quality cheap stereo amps

I would have thought the sub was to augment the bass in your speakers. That really has nothing to do with a preamp. I never heard of anyone using Mac speakers before. Mac electronics yes, speakers no. I must admit, I have seen Mac speakers advertised. Someone must buy them.

    Mp3, Aac, Wma?

I have been intending to set something up with my informal listening group. I will be using FLAC to start with. If you have any suggestions about other "lossless" compressors please let me know, although too many CODECS at one time make testing overly long and complicated.

    Mp3, Aac, Wma?

Your results pretty much mirror my own. I still find that for serious listening I prefer uncompressed files but for anything else MP3 at 256k works for me.
