Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Yet another affirmation of what Dunning-Kruger found... :) If you are going to argue against blind testing then please make an attempt to come up with (or imagine) a reasonable argument. Memory is not a valid objection. Enter quick-switching. Next excuse/red herring for why blind testing is...

Schiit Yggdrasil DAC and Ragnarok Amplifier Review

No one is demanding everything must be DBTéd. That is merely a contriviance of your imagination. : ) What evidence was provided? What rigor? :) Did anyone claim the listening impressions were crap? Great. None of which tells us about the DAC or amplifier "sound", which is what we are...

Schiit Yggdrasil DAC and Ragnarok Amplifier Review

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Did you level-match all three DAC's in your listening evaluation? Can you please walk me through the process as I would like to replicate the results in my own room.

Schiit Yggdrasil DAC and Ragnarok Amplifier Review

That is actually very interesting! Please keep in mind there is no evidence that delta-sigma DACs are audibly inferior to any other. No perceptual studies, no controlled tests, nothing to support that claim. The claim that delta-sigma is somehow inferior is usually based on casual...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

That's why quick-switching exists and is often implemented in sensory testing. If blind testing has no value in your eyes then I shudder to think what your opinion of a totally uncontrolled, perceptually error-prone "seeing/knowing/expecting.... bias-ridden etc" evaluation is. Even if blind...

    Denon and Yamaha

Pretty much at the same volume is code for "I didn't level-match". :) You can't level-match by ear. That's like cutting wood by eye. Please be aware that a small volume mismatch (1-2 dB) can have a profound effect on your perception of sound quality.

    stereo amplifier vs AV receiver

Interesting thread. Can't believe it's still going. o_O

    Denon and Yamaha

Yes, but there are always excuses. If you can't hear the difference then your ancillary gear clearly was not "resolving" enough. Speakers lack "resolution" to resolve, cables .. etc... etc. ... sun wasn't shining correctly on the day... :)

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Whether he is bothered or not is not my concern. :) This is a discussion forum so naturally the topic is open for discussion (from all sides). If you don't want to discuss controversial subjects that may bother you then simply don't participate. No one is forcing you.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

How do you know the volumes were matched? Did you confirm? Via multimeter across the terminals? Right, you didn't. That was a rhetorical. :) Volume matching is done electrically, not acoustically. It cannot be done with an SPL meter or Audyssey.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

It's not pointless if it's relevant to the topic. Otherwise why even allow such pretense if it's going to be disruptive to ... a few people? Well "can you hear a difference.... in amplifiers?". Whether it's amps, wires, DAC's, or widgets, matters not - any comparison requires context. And...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

I read your past comments and it's clear you don't understand how volume changes can affect perception of sound. If you want to remain in ignorance then be my guest.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

So you neither level matched nor listened blind, but somehow drew the conclusion that the differences had nothing to do with level matching? Hmmm... I'll say it again, a small volume change can lead to sound quality changes. Not just the volume. Sound quality changes. You don't seem interested...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Well, this is a discussion forum. Namely a "can you hear ... etc" discussion. I said his amp possibly may have affected the sound audibly. It's also possible, due to how the amps were compared, that Jared caused the difference. Psychogenically. Also possible differences were heard due to set up...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Yep, and I fully accept that. It's certainly possible the amp affected the sound waves/sound field audibly. However, it's not the only possibility. There is a way to find out...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

How do you know the difference you heard had anything to do with sound waves? For that you would have to listen blind because that's all you can do - listen. To sound. Using the ears. No peeking. No clues. Listening casually involves using your ... eyes, expectations, prior knowledge, brain...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

I'm sure there were differences. I believe you. Certainly possible the one amp was playing a little louder than the other. Most people don't level match (including me) while listening casually at home, and this can lead to all sorts of (unintended) sound quality differences. The other point...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Yes, but I think it's doubtful hum/hiss would be audibly relevant at typical seated distances and when playing music. Music is a fantastic masking source for hum/hissing.

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Yep, I'm sure the difference would be readily apparent given the lack of scientific rigor in the testing. Zero controls, etc. Certainly not discounting your subjective experience, but before you can isolate what you think you heard to noise floor you would have to eliminate all the "other...

Can you hear a difference in Sound between Audio Amplifiers?

Can you give us more details regarding the listening test? Single blind, double blind, Mushra/Triangle? Level matching method? Quick-switched, or slow-switched? Music selection, number of trials? Etc? Was this a proctored blind test, or performed by yourself?
