    Class D amp settings

Getting ready to set up my Class D Buckeye Purifi amp. There's low, med, high gain settings on the back. Any thoughts on how to determine best gain setting?

Review of Buckeye amps by the Audioholics experts?

I am using one, and I created a thread on class D amp, based on my early experience with this tiny amp that replace one of my big amps a few years ago: Class D power amplifiers | Audioholics Home Theater Forums

Shopping for decent power amp’s lighting took out two carver TFM-35 x’s

What the H is TMF sound? Sounds like some unwanted coloration. I think class D amps will be an improvement over ubiquitous class AB amps. I have used current dumping amps for years and years, but I do not think I would be adverse to class D amps.

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

...of the ones I was looking at were only 1 year and were double the ATI price. I don’t get it. Something is not adding up. I went to look at this class D ATI amp and in the specs it states the weight is 66 pounds. I haven’t seen any class D more than 25pounds.the NAD Master M23 class D is 23...

Marantz Model 10 Integrated Amp - Purifi Class D Weighs 74lbs!

...8 ohms and 500 watts into 4 ohms with SOTA noise and distortion performance. It’s also gorgeous and weighs a hefty 74 pounds despite being a Class D, high efficient design. Marantz has done some slick things to make it a unique offering such as: Latest generation of HDAM preamp circuits...

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

Also check out ATI amps. They have both old school class AB 300WPC amps and class D 500WPC amps. All ATI amps come with 7 YR warranty.

Guess you are not a measurement kind of guy. Warm huh?

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

The class D amps are not “one” amp but many different amp modules the most powerful would be the Hypex NcoreX modules or the second generation Purifi modules. These are much smaller amps, run cooler and have the better bench measurements than the older Class AB amps...

I second the ATI recommendation. Their class D amps are fantastic.

    Amp protection lights on

Looks can be deceiving. Those amps are not particularly long lived, because of design problems. Class A/B amps are not inherently longer lived than class D.

...Lower-cost analog amps tend to be more reliable than lower-cost class-D amps. Analog amps can also have more headroom than a similarly rated Class D w SMPS amp." Perhaps his caveat is "low cost" class D amps. Maybe his concern is the power supply. I think those are modular and user...

Review of Buckeye amps by the Audioholics experts?

Im a fan of class D, and Amir and ASR does good work, so I have no reason to believe Buckeye is anything but an amazing value. And I guess I’m technically an Audioholics expert again, so there’s that.

    Danon X4700H, Arcam sa30 and 2 Subwoofers.

I’m concerned about the warranty of all Class D amps as if you look, you will see they don’t come close to the warranty of Class A/B amps. That doesn’t give me a warm-fuzzy

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

Thanks, I'm old school and not familiar with these class D amps. Can they sustain high output for extended periods? And would they work well with my Anthem STR preamp? I see that the Buckeye can produce 28A output current, while the Parasound can produce 60A.

Shopping for decent power amp’s lighting took out two carver TFM-35 x’s

The plan is to get them serviced and upgraded to the present spec there just to nice of an amp to park . I’ve had these for 20 or more years . It’s time for a refresh. The Buckeye amp is to fill in till one is done then switch it out and send another in .

Ah, yes, ATI. Thanks for reminding me about ATI; I remember them from back in the day. I will check them out.

Hi again—you came to this forum for advice. All forum members, so far are recommending you buy and use Class D amps. Engineering science and applications have moved forward onto Class D amps. Are you still wanting old used AB amps? Why?

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

...for $2500 is also the cheapest version of it. The Ultra is $4200 and it can go up from there with options. What I don’t like is all these class D amps like the one we are talking about has a 1 year warranty (WTF). All these class D amps have a much smaller warranty compared to traditional amp...

Parasound A21+ power amp for my front L/R speakers -- overkill? Other options?

Was curious, so just checked what Bryston is doing with their class D offering, looks like they're still doing 20 years. My Crowns came with 3 year warranties but not an issue since expiration, some are 15 years old now in daily use.
