What is wrong with my speakers?

Greetings fellow audioholics. I am having a problem with my speakers. In my living room, my Monitor Audio Bronze B5 speakers sound extremely muffled. I replaced them with some other towers-Kirksaeter Prisma 100's. They sounded just fine with my Yarland tube integrated amp. This seems to eliminate any amp based or source based problems. I then replaced the jumpers on the Monitor Audio's with no improvement. They still sound very muffled. Are the tweeters shot? Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.
Mike

Is this a new problem? sounds like a mechanical failure if nothing else has changed..

Thanks for your reply. Yes ,this is a new problem. Until recently, they were singing flawlessly. BTW-both speakers sound very muffled.
Good listening,
Mike

If you REMOVE the jumper and you get muffled or no sound from either portion of the speaker, that should be a decent indicator where the problem is. It does kind of sound like the tweeters may have gone south, but hard to tell.

I just completed your suggested diagnostic and no sound. New tweeters?
Thanks

Probably, but it might be the crossovers or even the tweeters and crossovers. It seems you have abused those speakers.

Remove the tweeters and check the DC resistance with an ohm meter. If you don't have one, buy one as it is basic essential equipment. If the tweeters show infinite resistance, (open circuit) then they are fried and need repair or replacement. If there is resistance record it and let us know what is is. There should also be a click from the tweeters as you connect and disconnect the ohm meter.
