Potential customers can't be this stupid...

Anyone that believes where the data is hosted in Western countries and the courts... It's a red herring.
Not sure I follow this ... if the data is stored at a US site it would be easy for US courts to grant access to that data. Now if the data were only stored at a Canadian site it would be more difficult to get access to it, well .. ."legal" access.

The only plausible argument for the question is that this is for a govt. project or grant that mandated all Spend be kept in US or Canada. Still doesn't explain the question coming from an IT resource.

The spending makes sense, but the actual location of that data is sort of irrelevant to some extent unless they want to control that location as well.

Never underestimate the power of stupid.

Betcha she was happy that the US didn't apply this logic to that 400 million dollar no-bid contract awarded for the Obamacare software to a Canadian company where one of Michelle Obamas college buddies is a big wig.

I thought about that but in our industry they aren't spoiled for options. Like raising the Costa Concordia: How many outfits out there do you think had the expertise to pull that off?

If that's a response to my post, I would ask if you really thnk there are no home-grown companies that could have pulled this off? After all, there are already many internet-based insurance providers that do this today, or at least did before Obamacare.

Did they ever give you a reason for the question?

Nope and I doubt I will hear from them. They will most likely put the cart before the horse and then afterwards figure it out after they have been burned. I just had a customer that left us 3 years ago call on Friday and told me it took them two months to swallow their pride and call us back. It happens all the time.
