Hi Everyone,

My 3 year old 806 just fried with some hiss, sparks and crackle :( I am in search of a AV rec now.

My set up is 2 Polk RtiA9 towers running through a 200 WPC Amp, center CsiA4, and 2 FxiA6 with a Outlaw VTMk4 sub, LG 3D TV with LG 3D Blue ray player

I am looking for a 140 wpc @ 8 ohms output to feed the center and surrounds. I have looked through the Sony STR DN840/1040 and Onkyo 818/828/717, but can't figure out what to take.

My requirements are simple, I need the power to run the center and surround. Besides that sometimes I will run the music through my iphone, and may be Pandora, probably NOT through the wireless capability. But I would be satisfied with a powerful option with less bells and whistles, lesser price and a unit that runs cooler, the onkyo 806 ran hot and I hear that sony stays warm all the time. I run a fan on the AV receiver to keep it cool.

I know I can't go wrong with any of these, but just trying to optimize if possible. Thanks for your input.

Buy an equivalent Denon or Yamaha. Pioneer makes a nice receiver as well.

I did not looked at those models, Denon cos it's costly and Yamaha is only 100 WBC. I would appreciate if you can suggest the model

What features are important to you? Almost any receiver in a specific price range will have the same if not very similar features.

I am looking for the following :

- 120 or more wpc rms (would prefer 130, but not at extra price)
- manual adjustment of cut off frequency to speakers/sub (I run my Sub at 50 and others at 80)
- good calibration

I looked at Pioneer Sc1222 and SC-63, are they the same, they have some good prices online. I saw that 1222 does not have the manual frequency setting for each speaker, does SC 63 has it.

If it's a Onkyo you might want to contact them, they seem to be good at repairing with out of warranty stuff for free(although you pay shipping), hey you never know...

The difference between 100W and 120W is less than 1dB.

The difference between 100W and 140W is just under 1.5dB.

In a 5.1/7.1 system, power distributes like this, on a long-term average basis: 70+% Center, 10% L, 10% R, and 10% shared in all surrounds. For peaks, it's a bit more even in L/C/R, but Surrounds are still way under in what's needed.

Not that more power isn't "better", just not as much better as it sounds like it should be.

I would ignore output power and look at reliability and features, warranty, etc. Do you want to do AirPlay for example? Any network functions? How about really high quality room calibration (that would be Audyssey)? How about controlling it easily?

Thanks a lot, I didn't knew that, in that case please recommend what you think is good. I would say I will look for a D class amp and best option in terms of price and performance. I was looking at pioneer 1222-k and SC 63 as both of them are D class and are going cheaper than the newer models.

Pioneer 1222-K is $549 and SC 63 is $740, I am thinking of going with 1222-K.
