B&W 683 Power Options

Hey guys I just purchased a pair of B&W 683's and I currently have them hooked up to a Yamaha Rx-V373. They sound really good but I feel like that receiver is not driving them to their potential. I'm curious as to what I could do to get the most out of them to really make them shine. It's a 5.1 system so they're not being played just for music, but like I said I want the most out of my system as I can get. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Does the AVR shut down ?

Unless you are driving the speakers to extreme SPL from a far distance (large room), I think you are just fine.

They sound good, so just relax & enjoy & don't worry it.

That's a good point. Well lets say they are put in a larger room in the future what would you recommend?

The 683 is 86dB/2.83v/m. From 20ft listening distance, I predict that they will require no more than 50 WPC, assuming the total SPL (speakers + subs) is no more than 107dBC and the SPL from the 2 front speakers (subs turned off) is no more than 90dBC.

I like Denon & Marantz because of the Audyssey Dynamic EQ. I stay away from Onkyo due to reliability.

Thank you for the reply! I am a Denon fan myself. I had been looking at one of the Maverick Audio DAC's, would a DAC serve as equal or maybe better purpose as a new receiver would?

No, not even close. If you're talking about getting rid of the Yamaha receiver and getting a single MA DAC, then they are definitely not equal. The MA DAC wouldn't have an amp section, it wouldn't be able to deliver sound to all 5 speakers and the sub, it has no HDMI or video processing, and it has no bass management among other things.

If you're talking about adding it to the receiver, then I think it would be a waste of money since the DAC's in receivers are perfectly competent.

Yeah I meant to say id be adding it to the receiver but I didn't know if it would help because the Yamaha has the burr brown dac on all channels. So it would be a waste??

IMO, unequivocally NO! A total waste of money.

I would not mess with any DAC. You won't hear any difference IMO.

But a few people do like separate DAC. Different strokes for different folks. I am just not one of those.
