OK, so some of you may have read the thread about setting up my office manager with a decent 2.2 system, well hers is done, and it sounds great, she actually just ordered some pretty cool room treatments and she is on her way to having a great little system...

Well since I heard her svs subs, I wanted to try them out for myself, so I ordered another pair to put with my Carnegie csb1's...
I am still tuning the system a bit, and I'm not going crazy with cleaning up the wires until my carpenters finish my moldings in this room... This is the parlor in my guest suite, nothing fancy just a 42" lcd tv hung on the wall and the 2.2 system, the avr is in the closet since it feeds both the parlor and 1 of the guest bedrooms, the tv has a pair of audio outs so that just feeds into the preamp and it seems to work good... The music side is an audio engine dac that is wired back towards the seating position I plug my laptop into or the ipod adapter that my ipad is plugged into in the pic... I will get an ipod dock when I get around to it, waiting for the i20 to go on sale or them to come out with a new one...

So as you can see its just a set of Outlaw 2200 mono blocks, a parasound 2100 preamp, the csb1 bookshelfs, and the new svs sb12 nsd subs, a glass amp stand and a pair of glass bookshelf stands... Total spent was under $2500...
Parasound 2100 preamp Amazon.com : Parasound - Classic 2100 Stereo Preamp : Audio Component Preamplifiers : Electronics {I paid $377 shipped}
Outlaw mono blocks Model 2200 Monoblock Power Amplifier {I paid $550 bstock}
Carnegie CSB1's http://carnegieacoustics.net/image/products/big/csb1.jpg {paid $400}
SVS duals https://www.svsound.com/dual-subwoofers/dual-sb12-nsd#.UlcFRVCURD0 they are only listing the other finish, not sure why, but mine are piano {I paid $1138}

Back to the subs, I got them for $1138 shipped since they were bstock, they came in perfect shape as always with svs {I don't think these were bstock, the tape was still original, and they are untouched, I mean not a finger print, I called to ask if they had a bstock dual set in piano, they said no, then emailed me back and said yes, so maybe just threw me 5% off to make the sale, what ever, I'm happy}. SVS is a great company to deal with... They came in 3 days, too so that is fast...

Setting up the subs they come with rubber feet like all svs subs, and I am debating on whether or not to buy some glass stands for them. But anyway, they sound great, I got them tuned in in less than an hour, one at a time with the db meter {like I find with most subs, the gain levels don't match, not sure why, they just never do}. I played a few songs, that I like for testing subs, and the right one lights the limit light much sooner than the left one if that makes any sense, but that is only when really pushing them, its not a huge room so no need to get crazy, but they can definitely move some air.. The other thing that is great about these subs is the size, I mean just perfectly small, not tiny like some of the rel's, but big enough to be noticed and not big enough to be noticed at the same time, no one is coming in the room and going to say "holy sh!t what lives in there?"...

Now to the fun stuff, the word FAST doesn't describe these things, they are SUPER fast, musically I will say top 3 musical subs I ever heard. The output is good, I don't think a single would tow the line for HT, but duals can handle a good sized room and four of them would probably do most any room... I can also say tuning them in was nice with the controls they give you, dial in phasing, gain, and crossover is a welcome characteristic after dealing with my WD's digital remote control and presets, don't get me wrong they are nice, but tough to get perfect...

I listened to about 12 songs, and I had enough for the night since my kids have a millions things for me to do before they leave for the Holiday weekend, but I will watch a movie in there this weekend and get a good feel for them, so far I like them a lot {I already knew this since I just set up a set last week}, this is going to be one of my new favorite music subs, and the price is rite...

Glad you like the SB12s, you'd love the SB13s as well.

I have heard the sb13's and they are nice, but for music, I can not imagine the speakers that would keep up with the 12's never mind the 13's .. with music systems the output is the easy part. I think a pair of 150 watts subs would be fine with this room and these bookshelfs...

Looks good ... well not really, with all that fog :D ... congrats. I have the PB model for HT and it is the most musical articulate sub I've heard to date ... at most 25, so take that for what its worth :rolleyes:

I'm actually in here now listening to the system from my PC through the D1, still playing with the crossover points, they seemed to be different {clock position wise} on each sub so now I swapped control over to the preamp and it sounds much better, the 2100 has a sub control that allows you to turn it up and down, so I set both subs at a certain spl {at the listening position} and now Ill control the sub gain from the preamp. I think I have placement as good as it gets, I marked the floor with blue tape because these are going to be moved for the carpenters in the future, but I got them with a slight toe in {almost not noticeable}, about 7 feet apart {center to center}, the one on the right is moved away from the corner a little more, the one on the left is pulled forward a bit, the sub placement was pretty easy, I had to pull them out from the wall almost 3 feet, they actually sound best stacked on top of each other lol, but I don't like how it looks. I tried toe in on them and it makes no difference so I pointed them straight...

I'm going to spend a couple hours down here listening if anyone wants to join me, lol. My brother just left, he likes the sound but says my room sucks, which is true, because if I pull the sofa 3 feet closer to the speakers it sounds even better, but the room is so long and narrow, its tough to get rite.... I am going to put a recliner down here for me anyway, this is where I go to listen when my wife has company over or they are watching tv in the rear living room and I want to listen loudly, its far enough away where it doesn't effect the rest of the house....

Im going to beast through a couple playlists now, and maybe do a little more tuning and moving... I am very happy with the outcome, I'm confident this is about as good as a couple thousand gets you, I spent a little more on the stands, and electronics than you need to, a couple of Dayton apa150's ran mono would sound good too and only cost $300 {or a stereo reciever for $150}vs what the 2200 mono blocks and parasound cost, and for $949 the sb1000 dual drive would do a good job too... But in my house it needs to look good too... I am normally not a piano black fan, but these look awesome, you would be able to tell if I had any camera skills, and took the time to stand still and clean the phones lens, lol...

It was actually stairway to heaven, lol... I can't stop listening to this system, I got home tonight about 6:30 and I couldn't wait to turn it on, my wife brought me my dinner in the guest parlor and asked if I was moving in there, lol.. I don't know a king bed and 150 sq foot bathroom all to my self :cool: doesn't sound too bad....

I am testing the amps in the subs a little more, Ed emailed me and said we may have to change one amplifier out if it is red lighting before the other, and it is indeed doing that, still sounds good, but I can tell when the other is still producing and that one is falling out... like if you had dual subs in front of you and someone keeps lowering the volume of one of them, granted this is only at high volumes and Ill probably never really blast this after I get it all dialed in, BUT why live with it... SVS CS is top notch, he got rite back to me... I just want to exhaust all possibilities of causes before I condemn the amplifier...
I listened to 30 minutes of Beatles music at a modest level while going over my weekly invoices tonight in that room, mind you I have an office {actually 2 offices in my house one my wife uses as a storage room}, a parlor that is all mine, a living room that no one was using {rare} and a handful of other places, all with sound systems, that I could do my work tonight and I sat in that unfinished room {wifes fault, made a last minute molding change} on the most uncomfortable couch in the house happy as a lark... I will be sick of making the walk to the guest suite soon enough, and then it will be forgotten, and I will be back in my front parlor listening to my Evo's...
