Comparison of Polk speakers and BOSE Acoustimass® 10 with DENON 1713 AV

Hi,


I am planning to go ahead with customized home theater system.
In the phase was comfortable with DENO 1713 AV reciever but am in confused state on selection of speakers.
Heard both Polk audio system with DENON and BOSE Acoustimass® 10 Series without DENON and could not decide on the how to go about.
Anyone please provide me with your inputs.

You can't do worse than BLOSE. What Polks? Whats your budget? Search the threads, plenty of nice speaker setups talked about on here.

Will you please describe your room, what you are trying to accomplish and what your budget is?

It isn't as simple as a listening test and Bose tends to do their setups in close proximity which isn't realistic to your home listening situation. Generally speaking, they are considered one of the worst purchasing decisions you can possibly make.

it depends on what you are looking for in the system. If all you are looking for is a system to give you "better than tv sound" with surround sound effects then I would say Bose, many would disagree, but to be honest just for watching movies and listening to tv I think bose sounds fine.

But if you are looking for high quality sounds then probably not bose, especially if you are going to also listen to music on this system. Overall I am not a huge fan of small cube type speakers from any company when it comes to music listening.

I've heard 2 Bose setups. The center channel handled voices horribly. Made watching a movies unpleasant to say the least. My Polk in wall speakers sound much better, and I paid much less than the what you'll pay for Bose.

This isn't about how good/bad Bose sounds - it's about their price. The Acoustimass 10 speaker system is $1,000.

Another $50 for this: For only $34.12 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 5-1/4 Inches Center Channel In-Wall Speaker - 8 Ohm

So, for under $500, or half the price of the Bose, you can get a set of in-wall speakers with a decent entry level subwoofer that will completely decimate the sound quality that Bose can produce.

Okay, maybe that's reaching - but this will definitely do it for under $300....

Bose gets by on marketing, not by delivering a quality product for a reasonable price and why I feel it is important that people be educated on what Bose represents and why consumers should avoid them.

Expanding my specifications:
1. Room dimenssions: a. 14x12 Feet
b.19x23 feet
2. I would be listenning to music a lot along with movies.
3. Looking for a fine audio quality thats going to release me from days stress
4. I am looking for a budget arround $2000 , which is approximately 1,oo,ooo Rs (INR)

Please suggest me with the best audio sopeakers and also on the Reciever as I am looking for a 5.1 channel system.

Yeah, please don't buy any Bose EVER. Don't buy low-end Polk speakers either.

If you want something inexpensive and highly respected and sounds very good, get the Pioneer speakers, which you can audition at your Best Buy stores. Infinity Primus speakers sound very good also. NHT bookshelf speakers also sound great.

Then add a great subwoofer from SVS or something.

So SVS + Pioneer or Infinity or NHT.

For example, the Pioneer FS5 + C22 + BS22 for $473 delivered.

personally, for the most part for a budget of $2000, if you are listening to music a lot, I think floor standing sound better than bookshelf speakers, in my opinion. I am a strong advocate to buy used speakers, you can get higher quality speakers than you could buying new. I listen to a lot of jazz and big band so acoustic instruments for the most part, so I am very picky and have a very hard time finding speakers that can replicate brass sound well. I have not liked anything in the mid range polk.

I like B&W DM series for your budget, can find a pair of floorstanding for around $500 on ebay, center for $200, a couple rear book shelf $300 and a subwoofer for about $300-400.

Also i haven't listened to Emotiva speakers before but have their UPA7 amp and I love it. Emotiva has great return policy so I would say if you have time and are interested buy a pair of their floorstanding for i think $600 and give them a listen, they got a great review.

I disagree. My TAD 2201 (paid $1691/pr) and ATC SCM7 (paid $600/pr) sound at least as clear as many towers and with at least as big a soundstage as many towers. I think bookshelf will sound as good as towers, especially with subwoofers.

I would much rather have bookshelf w/ subs than have towers w/o subs. Of course, high-end towers w/ subs is better, but the budget won't be $2K.

Alot of spkr ranges starts with bookshelf's and just add bigger box's on the bottom....(certainly the case with mine)which obviously help's with
Bass extension ..but with sub's this aint really required..
And sometime's actually comprimise the sound
Mine were reviewed very favourably but the bigger ones (same driver's,bigger cabinet) werent

True, I would say a sub is a necessity no matter what you chose. I listened to B&W CM bookshelfs, and Martin Logan Bookshelfs with sub and did not like them nearly as much as their $1300 pair floor standing with a sub.

I get more sound detail , in both treble and bass with Polk Audio speakers.
You will be glad you bought the Polk speakers, trust me on this.
May cost a bit more but they are worth it.

Polk made excellent speakers...years ago, and those speakers are still great. Today, their speakers are good but maybe not quite as competitive as they could be. Below the RTiA line, I was less than impressed and your recommendation is based on something that is at least 20 years old.

I heard Polk Audio home theatre speaker system from today, and they sound , to my ears a whole lot better than the Bose home theatre system.
I would agree that the RTA brands of today are high end top line speakers for home use.
I guess it must be something to do with the 22,000 hertz that my Polk Audio model 10B operate at. I hear every sound detail even at the lowest
volume on my amp.
Polk speakers are the best in my opinion.

By the way, what ever happened to Soundcraftsmen Tuners and amps?, I bought a Soundcraftsmen Tuner T6200 , and found out a few years ago
that the company is no longer in business.? Anyone with any info about Soundcraftsmen?

There is a huge difference between "Polk makes some good speakers" vs. "Polk speakers are THE BEST".

I think Polk makes some good speakers, but I sure as heck don't think Polk is the best.
