True, I may have to do that. With that said I'm curious (being new to surround sound and all) how do i know that my current receiver can even handle or should i say get the VTF-2 to its full potential?

What receiver you have does not matter to what sub you buy. The sub will not be offended.

You subwoofer pros. How would you compare the HSU VTF-1 MK2 $480 shipped vs. the SVS PB-1000 $500 shipped?

My guess is the PB1000 will have more deep bass output, but the VTF1 may have more upper bass output, especially in two port mode.

I think the VTF2 can extend a tad deeper, and with respect to output they should be similar. I think the VTF2 is probably using a better driver, but the LV12's servo feedback system is a real advantage. I have A/B compared the predecessor of the LV12 (the FV12) to an older version of the Hsu VTF3 sub, they both had different strengths in sound quality, in my opinion.

I prefer the HSu to the rythmic, I have heard them both the HSU seems sound more powerful, I didn't a/b them and didnt hear them both in the same room, and have much more experience with the hsu, but its what I bought so obviously what I thought sounded better...

It's important to note that these numbers don't always equate to superior sound quality. The VTF-2 and PB-1000 are not statistically different so I'd go with the cheaper of the two.

SVS has an outlet sale for $449 for the PB1000. So tempting, but gotta hold off...BTW what are those things called that cover the port hole? looks like a sponge and do you guys use them much?

Where did you pull those numbers from for the PB1000? The only CEA numbers I know of for the PB1000 are from Sound and Vision, and I don't regard those as trustworthy. I wouldn't mix data sets between the Hsu and SVS or compare them with any other data sets. Anyway those PB1000 numbers look somewhat consistent with what SVS claims for it, except it is actually outperforming the PB12 NSD for most of the bass range if we held it against Josh Ricci's numbers. I would also say your chart is slightly incomplete because the VTF2 does get a passing 16 Hz measurement.

The PB1000 does as well, w/ 91.9dB vs 94.7dB for the VTF-2 w/ 1 port open.
