We aren't there all the time because we split locations due to work, so it is a vulnerability. Well, this week they got us pretty bad. The sad thing is, they must have come and gone a few times and NOBODY apparently noticed that it wasn't us. Safe gone. Firearms and a ton of ammo gone. All electronics and all of my media gone. The most important stuff typically stays with us, so we didn't lose anything critical, but we did lose some things that will be pretty much impossible to replace. Apparently the police said we are the 10th house in our area in the last 2 months. I have not even arrived yet, just got the call from the little woman because she went up tonight and I was packing to go up tomorrow. It makes me sick that people are so selfish and idiotic.

Won't have any access while up there now most likely, so probably won't be back on for a few days potentially.

So sorry, John. That's got to be gut wrenching. Your home was spared from a fire, only to then have this happen. I think that we all know that it can happen (because we know some humans are so selfish and disrespectful), but not many are mentally prepared for if it actually happens.

I'm glad that nothing critical was taken, and that no loved ones were hurt. Stuff can, for the most part, be replaced. At least in the here and now...maybe not after the zombie apocalypse. :D Yeah, just trying to lighten your mood...

Hopefully you have insurance, and hopefully they get you taken care of.

This is heartbreaking JG. I'm so sorry to hear this. This happened to me years ago in my 1st. apt. I know it's disheartening losing things you could never replace. I hope you can recoup your lost with insurance.

You should definitely check out the local pawn shops. My in-laws got robbed a couple years back and they took a lot of really sentimental things and sold them there. They caught the guy who did it, but they couldn't charge him because he could say he found their things. Don't worry though bad guys eventually slip up even the smartest ones. I hope you are able to find your rare things for sure.

That truly sucks. I'm sorry it happened but glad ther was nobody there when it happened. It might be more than things we're mourning.

Yes, a trip to the couple of nearest pawn shops has turned up my stolen property in the past. Go describe the stuff and give SNs if you have them. If they have the gear, they will tell you to call the cops and give it back to you.

Also, get to know the neighbors! Talk with them and know who should and shouldn't be in the neighborhood. I know most of the people around me and across the street, and we look out for each other.

On that note, the National Night Out is coming up, I think in October. This is an event designed to get people walking around the neighborhood and meeting each other etc. A really good idea!

Sorry to hear that man. At least no one was there. Things can definitely go sideways if someone is home. It sucks, but at least the material stuff can be replaced.

We talked to a few of the neighbors, some of whom we had not met previously. Our nearest neighbor's house was the one that burned down and they did not rebuild. The house behind is vacant as far as we know since it is up for sale and no house on the opposite side of ours making it difficult for others to have easily noticed. At the same time, we knew about the other robberies in the area over the last few months and none of them had any idea that had been going on. One of the neighbors we just met lives at the top of the hill up the street and actually has a good view of our place even though he is far. He is retired and is there all the time and offered to keep an eye on the place. We HAD an internet web cam but it died.... Oddly they took NO computer stuff at all, and missed some stuff I have packed up in one closet. We have serial numbers and photos of most of the significant items, but some were family heirlooms and pretty much impossible to replace.

The police say they have considerable information on them as they've employed cheap tactics - approaching houses with a bogus "out of gas" story to see if someone is home. If not, they keep an eye on it and then break in. What they don't have is sufficient information to locate them or even arrest them if they do find them unless they are in possession of stolen property. They say they are not confrontational, so if anyone is around, they won't attempt anything because they know people around here are armed.

So, my entire second system here is gone except my rack, ~400 movies, firearms and thousands of rounds of ammo. We were preparing to buy a gun safe since there had been some break ins in the area, but I wasn't actually able to get up here until this weekend. The little lady typically comes up for half the week or a week on a regular basis, but they hit us between those days. My electronics are all easily replaced and I am not worried about them. It is the personal stuff and the fact that they even did this that gets to me. We're doing fine for now, just figuring things out and still finding little things that are missing.

Not going to replace the stuff here with anything that matters until I am here full time. The only thing out of that gear the bothers me were my second set of A/V-2s because those aren't so simple to replace since I am pretty sure nobody builds those cabinets anymore and fully built versions will be somewhere around $800-900/pr.
