Thought I'd share with you my lastest subwoofer I built here instead of the DIY section as hopefully it would have more viewing interest in this section. This is the 20th or so sub I've built and the largest to date. I came up with basic size as I have a 1K cubic foot Great Room and the main front wall is about 20ft wide and I have a 8ft wide projection screen on it. I wanted to have a subwoofer to go underneath the screen and look like a piece of furniture and a high WAF.
I started off with a 2 piece design in case I needed to take it up stairs later and just make it more portable.
after bolting them together I installed a walnut butcher block top that is 25"x96" and was the basis for the overall design. I used Watco danish oil finish on it to have a low sheen so that the screen would not reflect on it.
I used black mirrored plexiglas for the side panels and trimmed the corners with matching walnut
I made a one piece grill out of aluminum C channel and used neo magnets to hold it in place.
Here are the 4- 18" Obsidian drivers installed.
Here it is in it's final resting spot. The Clements RT-7 speakers are ready for their new foam grilles to be installed, but are going to be replaced with much larger speakers to keep up with the sub now.
I just had the 3000 watt amp crap out on me so I don't yet have any output figure/response numbers for you. The Obsidian drivers have 3" of travel, but we've not had any excursion over 3/4" so far with the prodigious output so far, having four of them distribute the signal among them. Each box is tuned to 20hz. I also will have 4 of the Stereo Integrity 18" HT drivers to insert for later comparison. Right now it's just craploads of tight, deep bass.
