Wow. Cool. Monkish54 & GranteedEV are both college students who own $2K speakers (Phil2) in addition to other speakers like EMP, Pioneer, electronics, HDTVs! Kids these days are big time spenders! :D

When I was a freshman, I had a $20 Panasonic boom box. When I was a sophomore, I stepped up big time with $200/pr of Pioneer speakers. :D
When I was in college I was similar to M & G, but I spent my money on cars and women. The former turned out to be a better investment than the latter. The cars took me places and had an "off" switch. My problems with women were more related to the "on" position. While giving the car a meal with a gas pump virtually guaranteed a performance, there was far less certainty with women. Perhaps I would have been smarter to invest in cars and audio equipment.

I didn't mean that it would be huge purchase for a billionaire, but that a 50K speaker is not inexpensive even for ultra hifi.

No matter how much cash you have, 50K is not a low price for a speaker. That was my point.
Agree.

Especially if they would rather give $50K to charity. ;)

Halfway through senior year now... Sold a large portion of it to other college kids. Still have the Denon, Onkyo, KEF's, Wharfedale's, Rythmik's, RBH's, and both EMP sets. Gave the RC160 to my mom.

I can't imagine I'll be buying anything else for a while now. Maybe an amp or something, but definitely no speakers for a while.

When I was a younger man (not that I'm terribly old), I blew more money in one night on women and booze than the retail value of my entire AV setup. I have no regrets :D

Then you were more successful than I was. ;)

I've also sat and read reviews on rechargeable batteries as another example. All this in spite of the fact that if a cashier at my grocery store asked me if I wanted to donate $20 to the food bank, I'd not have a problem saying yes without needing an hour to think about it.
I like Sanyo Eneloops :)

Whenever they ask me to donate at the grocery store, movie theater, or fast food joint, I ask if they are matching donations. If they are, then I'll donate. If they don't, then I don't either >_>

Your college system is nicer than mine. I pull a six figure salary, and my 5.1 system is barely over $1K total.

These speakers look nice, but are way out of my budget. Even the "satellites" as bookshelves would cost $20k. Wow!

This is the law of diminishing returns gone wild.
The TV show idea that never quite made it.

"Hey, we could show more and more expensive stuff and then talk about how it starts to show less and less improvement. You know, take surveys, create measurements and graphs, that sort of thing."

"Sure, sure. Or we could just get college girls drunk and video tape them."

I think you're onto something there ... especially the part about getting them drunk. I always thought that part would take care of itself but I definitely am liking your idea of actively affecting their sobriety much better. There's a deep twist in you, Old Adam.

Come up with 50K and I'll find some college girls that want to be inebriated and photographed. ;)
Come up with 5k and I'll get inebriated and let you photograph me. (Fur suit optional). I may not be a girl, but at 1/10th of the cost I'm all you got. As they say, “you cant put a price on good p***y".... Well in this case you can, but the price is 50 large ones--and that only gets you two large ones.
