so you guys still recommend the CTR for a 20" barreled rifle?

what about the ACS stock?

also, my rifle is currently front heavy, that's why i was thinking a heavier buttstock should help with the balance.

The acs is a nice stock but a little thick in the cheek area for me, and heavier..

As far as balance, believe it or not your 20" barrel is very little, as far as balance, that is up to you, I dont know how you carry your gun... Im not a fan of barrels over 18... But it depends what you are doing with it... my 14.5" bcm shoots just as well as my 20+" bull barreled ar's , but the bull brl can go a lot more shots before its over heating...

I've had most of the popular stocks at one point or another. All my rifles have a CTR. One other option is the newer CTS which is a slightly different reworked CTR. I think it give you better cheek weld, but it's up to you. My buddy has a 20 inch precision Noveske rifle. He took off the Vltor and runs a CTR as well. It just works. He's tac driving at 500 yards with it. But make sure you understand that different things work for different folks. A lot of people love the Daniel Defense light rails. I find them too narrow for my big hands. I like their Omega rails better. I know a guys who love their PRS stock... it just didn't work for me... or it worked... i just didn't like it as much as the CTR and just went back to it.

For you, if you're doing more precision shooting, something more adjustable like the PRS or the Vltor (which is extremely well received by most) may be the ticket for you. The great thing about the CTR is that ther is always a market for it. You can usually sell it with little problem.

i'll ask around if there's a home service gunsmith.

(we need permits to transport if we wish to bring the weapons outside the home)

edit: no home service gunsmiths. will have to apply for permit to transport to use a handguard that doesn't split in half.

i actually have a round aluminum handguard i had removed because at the time, i wanted a classic m16 look.

Hey Mike, check out LaRue Tactical. I've bought a ton of stuff from them. They should have what you need.

When I build my new one this year I will be using a CTR also :) Already checked them out and decided that was the one. I didn't mind my buddy's MOE either though, but I like the additional features of the CTR.

I just bought some rail ladders, XTM covers and a MIAD grip from these guys too and there's a 10% off code I can give you also.

i picked up this scope for the 20" one
https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_3X_Compact_Scope_PAC3X_p/pac3x.htm
plan to mount it on the carry handle (once i figure out how to zero it, then i'll remove the carry handle)

and then plan to get OD green: MIAD grip, AFG2, PRS stock, MOE handguard (need it cheap and light)

-0-

for the 12.5" one,
i plan to get:
ACS stock (the MOE and by extension, the CTR, looks bad to me), AFG2

when i recover from the expenses, i want a red dot sight for the short one that looks like this:

Weird. The PRS is the one that looks odd to me, but I like the adjustability; I haven't seen that one in person. You can put an add-on adjustable cheek weld on the CTR and MOE also. I like the PRS and UBR also, but price is getting up there. ACS is probably a good middle ground, but I am more function over form for something like this, so the CTR will work for me, but if I got a good deal on an ACS... :)

Code PM'ed.

I hope you don't mind, Mike, if I take your thread just a little off topic. I know the interested parties look here, and that is who I'd like to ask.

For medical reasons (chest implant) I have to do one of two things...learn to shoot a rifle (right handed) with my non-dominate eye for aiming and overcoming 60 years of shooting one way (left handed), or shoot without aiming and pulling rifles/shotguns away from my left shoulder...using some relief for both optics/eye and body. And I'd hate to be firing a 12 ga. or 30-06 with the recoil centered on my bicept if I move the piece out there. I want to be able to aim, not hip fire.

Any suggestiongs are most appreciated...particularly for AR style equipment. (BTW, pistols are no problem since the shoulder isn't involved and I shoot them right handed. (I know...doesn't make sense, even though I'm left eyed. I'm screwy that way.) ;)

Wow. Well, I would think since you shoot pistol right (with left eye is what you are saying?) I would think you could probably adapt to right shoulder for long guns with practice. I'd take that over putting it on my arm. So do you have a lefty AR as well or do you shoot a standard one?

I don't currently have an AR but am contemplating getting one...and would have gotten a righty had this thing not been put there. My HK91, a righty, didn't bother me at all with hot empties clinking off my head. But the one that landed between my collar and neck...oh my. LOL.

I think I made a big mistake having the implant put on the left side. It turns out the electrical leads go into the subclavian vein right where the rifle butt meets the shoulder. (Thanks for telling me, doc! Jerk.)

i ordered the items from mounting solutions last march 1. i was wondering why my order was "pending" until march 6, (emails in between were unreplied) when i decided to call and check.
apparently, the system didn't push the order in, or so she says ... anyway, most the OD green stuff and QD sling swivel was out of stock.
so i changed the relevant items to black. cancelled the QD sling swivel and a grip (since i already had a black grip).

they shipped it out that same day.

now, since i won't be at site to receive the items, i emailed (but no reply), i called to request for a breakdown of my order so i'd have a checklist to give the person receiving the items, and that i'd know what charge to expect with my CC.

they emailed me the new total amount with no breakdown.

i tried to make sense of the new total, deducting the cancelled items, the discount, the shipping ... it just wasn't tallying.

i called again to ask for a list of the items again, she said that we already went over the items the other day and that i should just wait for the piece of paper in the package. i told her, i wasn't at site, but i must have been shooting blanks, because nothing was going through.

i just said, thank you and goodbye. sigh.

Sorry man. I didn't have to deal with them directly until this week when I received my parts. They short shipped my order because, oddly, the black parts were on backorder. I didn't notice when they sent the email about my order that one part was not on it. I emailed them because they were closed on the weekend and the called me on Monday totally not understanding what I was asking. I asked since the item was backordered, did that have an ETA of when it would be in stock because if it was going to be long I would just cancel it and have that credited toward a new order for other parts. She thought I wanted to cancel that item and reorder the same thing that would then still be backordered

I tried to reset my password from their site and it said "email has been sent". I've done it 3 times and still have not received anything.

Had to call them about the account and they said they cannot fix a lost password unfortunately and I had to create a new account. Not a great system. I placed my order anyway because they had the best price on the two items I wanted, providing they are in stock. They haven't confirmed my order, so they may not be...

let me guess ... you talked to natalie? (tried to talk to another person, but that other person bounced me back to natalie)

i had to check if i was using english, because my thoughts just wasn't getting through ... like leaves hitting a brick wall.

Most likely, since she's the same one who called me earlier in the week regarding the email.
