What would you choose (Hurry want to buy tomorrow)?

Yo,

Sold my Velodyne a few weeks back and want to try something different. I've been browsing my local craigslist and there have been a few options pop up in my price range. Now, I live in an apartment so volume is the last of my concerns. I would take frequency response as a first and foremost priority. The 2 subwoofers I've narrowed it down to are below.

Velodyne SPL-800. The Original version, but the acrylic model. That alone is making me want it. It's response should dig to 25Hz in room, and have more then enough output. This is the More expensive option of the 2, at $400.

Klipsch RW-12. The non D version, but has the same amp, and stated repsonse to 21hz +/-3dB. Don't know how accurate this is, worst come to worst, it'll be similar to the SPL-800. This is only $200, but has less power. The Velodyne should be better, and I've always wanted one of those SPL/SPLR subwoofers. It's hard for me to choose. If any one has personal experience with the Klipsch, I'd love the input. I have seen enough measurements and heard the SPL-800 to know it's a good unit. The price gap is the tough part.

I'd lean towards the dyne, but 400 is really close to the SB1000 from SVS. I'm not sure if you've owned an SVS sub, but it might be a nice change of pace. BTW Welcome Back.

I've looked into the SVS. Both would have similar responses, but the Velodyne would be cheaper by a couple hundred due to taxes and shipping.

Agreed. Btw, that acrylic version is bad a**. I didn't know they made those.

Velo here too. I've seen and heard the acrylic one. It is kind a old, but a cool little sub. I don't know that they actually sold those, so that one may have been from a showroom/demo unit. Lots of dealers in the area had them in their showrooms here (Velodyne was originally here in San Jose), though they may actually have sold them as well. Here's an 8 and a HGS 10

I have an old Velodyne SPL-1000 in black oak that I'm very happy with. I bought it new in 2001 and for the first time last year it failed. I sent the amp back to Velodyne and they repaired (replaced?) it for $230 with a 1 year warranty. Great small sub with lots of power and goes down to 24 Hz. Maybe it's similar to the SPL-800 you're looking at.

The RD-12 may equal or better, but the cool factor has to be reckoned!

Besides if the amp blows, you can always convert it into a gerbil habitat (don't ask, don't tell, NTTATWWT)!
