I'm looking for insight and opinions on selecting a receiver. I just bought a sony str-dn1030 and recently saw a huge price drop on a onkyo TX-nr809. should i pack up the sony and buy the onkyo. Seems like the onkyo is a better receiver.

Sony STR-DN1030 vs. Onkyo TX-NR809

Bought a sony str-dn1030 this week and having potential buyers remorse. Amazon has marked down the Onkyo TX-NR809 to $425. Is the Onkyo a better buy?

Sony shouldn't even be part of the question. The remorse is justified.

Hey buddy, long time.

How's the drug business going?
I think the economy & healthcare insurance have hurt everyone, but overall the drug business is doing pretty well.

Are you still selling? ;) :D

Damn, sorry to hear! :(

That's what you get for taking jobs that make more money than I. :)

The more you make, the higher the risk.

The 809 doesnt support Airplay. What are my wireless alternatives? Bluetooth only? I have all apple ipods
You should grab the open box Denon 3312 from Amazon Warehouse for $493:

Amazon.com: Buying Choices: Denon AVR3312CI Integrated Network A/V Surround Receiver

I've talked to Denon twice on this. It's considered open box and you get 3 yr warranty like brand new.

I own a Denon 3312. It as AirPlay, which I love BTW. :D

My Denon AVP-A1HDCI does not have AirPlay. I just bought the Apple TV for $95 from Amazon. Now I have AirPlay for my AVP-A1 too.

Yup, the Onkyo is definitely the winner between those two.

Unfortunately I think he already ordered the Onkyo, but I think the Denon is actually a better choice AND it has Airplay.

Is Airplay all that Important? I guess If you have apple products then I guess yes. I don't own their stuff so...I'd go for the Onkyo you won't regret it.

I'm still PC for desktop & laptop, but I have kind of defected to Apple for mobile. :D

The iPad is just too cool to ignore. My workplace uses iOS mobile exclusively and PC for desktop exclusively.

AirPlay is so cool. You can stream music, video, photos from your iOS devices directly to your Denon & TV. So cool.

So to me (& millions of people) AirPlay is very desirable. I bought the $95 Apple TV just to get AirPlay added to my Denon AVP-A1. It was kind of like paying for a hardware update. Netflix streaming on the Apple TV is a bonus. :D

I predict that Denon will add the entire Apple TV (AirPlay, Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, etc) as the next step on their future AVRs. :D
