Hi,
I just joined the forum today concerning an issue with a brand new DD 18 + that I purchased. I sent the amp back to the guys who I bought the subwoofer from and they are sending me back another one. I bought the subwoofer from DigitalCraze.com and get warranty through them. I really like the unit however I was wondering if anyone would know why the amp would have blown within the first month of use? Its hooked up to a Houseboat and has been run off the houseboat generator once or twice. If anyone has any input let me know! Thanks!

Welcome:D

Not sure but is your house boat connected to shore power or on board power that may not be well regulated?

I do have it hooked up to shore power and it's not on a power cleaner.
I have ran it off of an older Generator (houseboats 20 years old with stock generator) and figured that could have been a problem

The new amp came in yesterday but i'm questioning even hooking it up so that I can sell the amp as brand new and sub as less than one month year old.

The thing sounds great I just don't want to end up doing the same thing.

Honestly I'm considering selling the DD18+ and getting a JL Audio Fathom or Gotham depending.

Any suggestions as i'm kind of losing my mind on this issue right now.

I would not run any audio equipment direct from a boat generator. You need a good battery backup UPS that also restores a clean sign wave. The AC out of generators is ugly and needs a lot of treatment before connecting to modern electronics and that includes your computers.

You really should call in professional help and look at the wave and voltage stability of the generator, and see what someone knowledgeable recommends.

Switching power supplies of subs are especially vulnerable.

Thanks

Sounds good & professional help seems like a must. I looked at your photo of your set up looks sweet man!

Do you know where I could get started in finding someone to come check this out?

Thanks again!

There are generators on the market that can do the job, no doubt about it.

My previous job, we ran mobile analytical labs, in trailers, off of generators (the one in my lab was diesel-powered). We ran IR, FTIR, and other quantum-physics-based analytical techniques from those generators. If those very sensitive instruments ran fine, then stereo equipment will run fine.

We did have a UPS system too, but it was nothing fancy, and I highly doubt that it improved upon the power from the generator. However, we are talking about a $15K generator.
