Speaker opinions!

Ok I know the first thing everyone will say is, "you have to listen to them yourself.". That aside I'm interested in what you like, feel free to unabashedly promote your brand.

I just bought the Denon AVR-3313CI open box thanks to some encouragement on here so I was able to save a few bucks. I need speakers! I have about $1500 left in my budget. I'm ok with not getting everything right away and adding to my system at later dates.

My room is not huge, medium sized at best. I don't want any tower speakers as I feel those would overpower the room. I'm looking for 2 bookshelf, 1 center, 2 surround sound, 1 subwoofer.

I bought these 2.1 klipsch speakers for my computer 5 years ago and I love them. I definitely favor klipsch but I would like to hear from you guys what you have, what you like. I don't have $2,000 to blow on one speaker so I guess ultra high end speakers are not an option for me.

Surround speakers -- Klipsch RS-42 II (x2)
Subwoofer -- Klipsch SW-110

I'm assuming these surrounds are not to be wall mounted. Is it ok to place them behind furniture?

Can you give the dimensions of your room? Large, medium, small doesn't really help very much. Also, is it open to other rooms or is it sealed when the door is closed?

What are your listening tastes / habits? Movies / music? Price is right and acoustic bluegrass only? Concert level thrash metal?

When you say towers will 'overpower' your room, do you mean visually or sonically?

Those surrounds can be wall mounted, if you prefer.

You're generally better off with a sub from one of the specialized sub companies, like Hsu, Epik, SVS, Velodyne, etc...

+1, this right here. One Klipsch sub that may be good is the SW-115, you can get some good discounts on those if you buy a Klipsch package.

My room dimensions are:

20ft x 14ft approx

I live in a traditional colonial style house. The family room is the room where I will be setting this up. It's not enclosed. It's on the ground floor. The room is approximately square shaped (I guess rectangular due to the dimensions), it's open to the kitchen on one side, and open to the formal living room on an adjacent side. The other 2 walls in the room are exterior walls, one has a fireplace, and the other a large window.

I like electronic music, dnb, rock, bluegrass, live concert music. I guess good bass would be important for me. And of course good sound for movies.

I listen to music far more than I watch movies.

If you're willing to piece the system together, and you wouldn't mind going stereo, I would definitely go with these.

Yup. For the most part.

Going stereo meaning you won't be able to afford rears/center so you'll be watching movies with two channel not 5 (2 speakers..not 5)

Ah I see. I'm hoping to get a center, sub, and 2 surrounds with a $1500 budget. I'm thinking for that kind of money and not ever having nice speakers I'm sure I'll be impressed with the sound. In the future I will probably replace things.

What are you using for main L/R channels? A Klipsch model, presumably? Timbre matching across the front three is rather important.

Oh man just when I think I'm starting to understand all this stuff I'm hit with a new word. What is timbre I can't find it in the spec list. Right now I have 2 Cambridge Audio bookshelf speakers. I may have to keep those for now due to my budget. I will eventually replace them.

If I stick with the same brand..say Klipsch...is that enough to keep the timbre the same?

Ok thanks I think I got it now. Here's the final build please comment.

Center speaker: Klipsch RC-42 II
Bookshelf: Klipsch RB-41 II (x2)
Surround: Klipsch RS-41 II (x2)
Subwoofer: Velodyne Impact 12

Slightly over my budget but worth it if everything checks out.

At this point I would just axe the surrounds and put that money into either better fronts or a better sub. For a small room they might work well. For a large room I don't think a bunch of 4" woofers will cut it. How much money do you have to work with and do you absolutely have to buy Klipsch?
