I have a like new XPA-2 for sale - $500.

I bought the amp with last year's Christmas sale expecting to have speakers to try with it before the trial period was over in case I wanted to send it back.

They would not extend their trail period and I just got Salk HT-3's which can handle more than it has for power. It has only been used for 3 weeks and the only reason I'm selling it is to get 2 x XPA-1's.

I have the original box and all paperwork.

First, pictures.

Second, just because the Ht3's can handle all that power doesn't mean you'll ever touch that number. It all depends on a lot of factors. Was the XPA plugged into a dedicated 15 or 20 amp circuit meant only for the amp? How far away is the listening position from the speakers? Are you primarily using the speakers for music? Movies? Both?

My guess is that you've probably never strained the XPA-2, nor come anywhere near pushing it to its ACD rating. I highly doubt the XPA-1's are needed.

I agree with fuzz. If you are set on buying new Emotiva amps for more power, I suggest looking at the XPR-5 for the same price as two XPA-1s.

This is a for sale ad. What the heck are you two doing in here arguing with a seller about his motives? IMO, bad form. Send him a PM if you feel so strongly.

I couldn't disagree more. First, no one's arguing with the seller about his motives. We're merely trying to keep the seller from spending more money than he/she may have to if he/she isn't going to gain anything useful from the added expense.

IMO, trying to help isn't bad form at all. Belaboring the point and actually arguing with the person is another story, but no such thing has occurred at this point.

I appreciate all the advice and a healthy discussion. I am in NO way offended.

I'm located in Virginia Beach.

The 2 x 15" subs are overpowering the HT-3's. The amp got too hot once and shut down. I tend to drink heavily and if a little is good then a whole lot is better seems to be my logic at 4am while trying to party....

I have the amp plugged into a Panamax powersrip with the Pioneer SC-57 and Oppo 93. I'm only interested in music quality - not movies. The listening position varies from 6 feet to an adjoining room to outside on the back deck.

Might not make any difference, but try plugging it directly into a wall outlet if you haven't already. Emotiva recommended that I not use a surge protector. I still do on mine, and I use the "high current" plugs, but I don't play my system very loud. :) This gets back to what fuzz was saying - the powerstrip might be limiting the amp.

The powerstrip is definitely limiting the amp. You also haven't said whether or not that outlet is only thing on that (15 amp?) breaker. If its not, and you have other outlets all drawing from that same breaker you're not getting anywhere near maximum rated output from that amp.

If you put that amp on a dedicated 20 amp circuit, then I highly doubt you'll feel the need to upgrade, you may, but I highly doubt it. Also, if it's not and you upgrade anyways you won't be gaining anything. Amps don't magically create power, it has to come from somewhere so whatever limits you have at the wall will trickle down the chain. Getting two bigger amps and then plugging them into a 15 amp shared circuit will only bring you right back to where you are now.

As has been discussed many times before, when it comes to playing loudly, it's always better to err on the side of efficiency than bigger amps unless you have realllllllllyyyyyy deep pockets :D

Pay attention - Adam and Alex (Fuzz) have your back!

These man-amps need their plug rammed straight into the wall receptacle!

I run my emo xpr5 and xpa2 to a 220v plug I installed specifically for them...

I contacted Emotiva and asked them about using a high current outlet from my Panamax since I had no other outlet in the area and they said it would be fine.

I have an entire room running off this circuit I believe. I haven't really checked it out.

If the circuit breaker isn't tripping but the amp is shutting down because it's getting too hot how will supplying a dedicated 20amp circuit to the amplifier help with it not shutting down?

Is it not shutting down because of the heat?

do you have enough ventilation for your amp? do you have a pic of your current amp in it's rack?

I've had my XPA-3 for over 2 years and it has never shut down due to heat, even after many hours of use. Does yours have proper ventilation?

I'm away from home right now so i don't have pictures but it is sitting on the ground with nothing near it.

I would "assume" that it being on the ground with nothing on top of it or around it would be proper ventilation......
