A music system for my office

I'll start with wired, but cool suggestion!

I have a question. I can't help but love the look of these CMT-340's. I measured and they would be the same height of my screens. They'd flank my dual 23" monitors perfectly. I figure that instead of trying to get speakers that don't take up too much room and hide on my desk, why not outright feature them? How would they do for my setup?

Thanks,
Grant
I'd get something different if you want nearfield. I've tried a few different nearfield set ups and I've found that large speakers just don't image right when you sit close to them. I'm skeptical that you are going to be happy with this set up.

At your budget and if you want speakers flanking your monitor for a nearfield set up, I'd give a long hard look at the NHT superzeros and super 8 sub for $500: http://www.nhthifi.com/bookshelf-speakers-subwoofer-Super-Stereo?sc=12&category=3830. You get a 30 day money back guarantee which includes shipping charges.

I like this combo a lot and it will be pretty forgiving when it comes to placement. The monitors are sealed and you can put them on a small stand like this: http://www.nhthifi.com/DeskStand-for-SuperPower?sc=12&category=6062. Or you could make your own. The idea is that you want to tilt the monitors up so that you are sitting in the sweet spot.

Obligatory DIY suggestion...

Anything that is just sitting around is a dead loss. Put the Pioneer and JBL to use and flog the B&M center speaker. IMO, make the pair you can best afford to build.

DIY reco 1: Statements (Full DIY/major project, but with excellent quality of audio) (Also look at other DIY designs on the website, some are much less involved)

DIY reco 2: ER18 MLTL (Full DIY, but less complicated than Statements, excellent quality of audio)

DIY reco 3: Zaph|Audio ZA5.2 TM 2-Way Kit (I can build Ikea stuff so, I can make this speaker too, best bang for buck DIY bookshelf) (website has other kits too)

DIY reco 4: TriTrix MLTL Kit (Best bang for buck in DIY tower, get cabinet finished professionally for good looks) (website has other kits too)

DIY reco 5: Dayton Audio RS722BK Speaker Kit (Looks similar to Ascend 340)

Considering the near-field aspect, how are the PSB Image B6's that were earlier recommended? I checked out the NHT's and would rather get the best bookshelves I can and add a sub later.

And as for DIY, I'd rather buy complete (and the have the ability to return).

Thanks,
Grant

Those all look good, but do I want monitors? Would I be better off with speakers that do color a little bit?
Leave the coloring to the artists and painters - there are also
some good passive speakers out there.
