Hey Joe, Best Buy will match any online price for the Pioneer's, they did with my 52's, they are really nice and can see how you would miss them. I just took mine back today, I really don't need anymore speakers, (it did break my heart to take them back) though. I just picked up a PSA XV15, so the refund from the 52's is going into the till for another XV15, it is that awesome I hope all is well with you my friend after Sandy. Take care.

My budget on the sub started at 300 then kinda bumped to 400 then 500-600. haha. Definitely not really looking to go past 600. Part of the reason for that is based on how much my speakers cost and my avr cost as well as the fact that I just haven't seen any options I liked all that much better for say 700-800. And if I was wanting to bump up my budget that much which doesn't seem to make sense to me. I would think two epik legends would be ideal since you can get a pair for about 1000 shipped I think.

Not sure what you are talking about? The $700-800 price range is almost the sweet spot for the market, but $600 will still get you something solid.

You'd be better off with one Empire than dual Legends IMO. Fewer amp issues and you are going to need a pretty big room for it not to handle it.

You should probably start a separate thread in the sub forum for your sub search.

Well with the 5.0 speakers and wire it was 500 bucks. My AVR is a Yamaha Adventage rx a710. last years model. I spent somewhere in the 400-450 range on it if I remember correctly. I don't doubt you there, However I am not sure I can justify spending that kind of money on a sub/s considering how much I only spent 500 on speakers including cables.

An experience user in the sub field on avs called archaea said to me "Chad, the owner of Epik has said the legend amp is the most reliable amp he's ever sold, despite the fact it creates heat.

Rythmik amps run hot enough to burn your hand -- I'll attest that first hand from the last subwoofer get together I attended in PA. Yet you never hear anyone complain about Rythmik amps running hot.

People just find stuff to complain about IMO."

While Chad is the owned and wouldn't want to state anything bad about his amp. I am not sure an amp running hot is enough to say the amps are unreliable. But who knows.

I am not sure the empire is very suitable, it is extremely large and powerful and I am not sure I want something that big and powerful.

I have a thread here on AVS that I have put some effort into. If you can check it out and give your advice thatd be great

Sorry if what I said came across wrong. I was not planning on buying two legends. I was just making the point that instead of buying a more expensive 800-900 dollar sub it would be probably more ideal to buy two epik legends since with two subs dispersion is a lot better.

Did something go wrong with your legend?

I ran a Rythmik amp with my Adire Tempest (15" in a sonotube tuned to 17.5Hz) for 5 years without issue and it never felt too hot to touch. I pushed that thing hard too.

While Chad is the owned and wouldn't want to state anything bad about his amp. I am not sure an amp running hot is enough to say the amps are unreliable. But who knows.

It is widely known that the Legend subs have had amp issues here and there. Maybe some bad batches or maybe the amp isn't quite up to spec. I had my Empire amp die also, but Chad replaced it. I don't want to say anything bad about them, because though it took longer than I would have liked, they did take care of the situation to my satisfaction. I helped Jeff with his Legend issue also (long story).

You're welcome jenn, my bad for not realizing you had all this stuff and are concentrating on the sub now. I had my Legend for about 20 months and pushed it hard and not so hard, regardless of how it ran it the plate amp got too hot to touch for more than a second. It never failed though, and Chad also informed me that this heat issue was normal and that the Legend was their best selling sub with the lowest % of amp failure. John (jgarcia) did really help me out and am forever indebted to him, but that's another story. So I would reco the Legend considering the performance of mine, but would give some thought to the Empire and never have the feeling "Do I need more" needing and wanting are two different animals though. Good luck in your search and keep us posted on tour considerations.

Haha well I honestly don't want to upgrade in the future. Not for a long time at least. The system I am building now should be more than good enough for a long time even if it gives me the urge to upgrade i have good self control to not. Plus I got 2 and a half more years of schooling and such so upgrading isnt in the near future for me. I don't really wanna purchase something for the idea of upgrading my speakers in the future.

Interesting, I have heard there have been plenty of amp issues. I guess as long as the owner takes care of it for free its not that big of a deal. especially considering it seems like epiks products are high quality minus maybe the amp

Thanks Jeff. I guess HT isnt about needs its about wants. I do have to consider my other priorities such as bills and school and whatnot so I guess I don't really want something too expensive or big. And considering the epik empire is about 300 dollars more expensive than the legend I don't think its something I want to spend that much more on to get. I can be a picky person and I like good sound and want my money to be spent wisely. But I honestly don't think I care enough to get the empire. At least on my budget. Plus with other people in the house I cant go to overboard.

Nice! I got that same set, except I have the towers. It sounds amazing. Not that much bass imo, but thats what a subwoofer is for. If I can manage to pick a good sub I am going to be extremely happy with this system because so far without the sub it sounds great!
