Holy crap. No wonder that CD sounded freaking loud.
They made them as loud as they could. I'm downloading another version (I think it was from the first CD release) to see how that is.

And that song sounded pretty good to me as well. The bass was pumping. :D
I used to demo these tracks to people when they wanted to hear the Phil 2. Clearly a miscalculation on my part...

Does the R-Series have the same effect on you with the grill off? I've not seen it on the Q100's, but honestly I see far enough away that my highly power-assisted eyes wouldn't likely pick up on such a thing anyway.
No such effect on my R900 but I don`t listen too loud so my VU meters hardly go over 1W. On top of that, the 5 inch mid range is crossed at 400 Hz so it won`t move much to begin with, and of course it does not have the color contrast that the LS50 has. The 5.25 inch driver on the LS50 has to do full range so it really has to do some long and hard strokes.

Why is that?
Have you read his reviews on amps, preamps etc.? What do you think of all those superfluous adjectives he typically used to describe how one amp sounds better than the other. Don't get me wrong, I am not totally (but almost) on the all amps sound the same camp. I do feel my Marantz pair sounds different than my Cambridge Audio/Bryston pair but I wouldn't use adjectives that border on gross exaggeration. All I would tell people is that I think they do sound "slightly" different.

Unfortunately, I have.

I'm not a fan. He embodies all the things I consider ridiculous and silly about audiophiles.

My biggest gripe with him is his anti-accuracy and anti-measurement articles.

I feel the same way, 100% with you on this but I will still read his stuff just for fun and laugh.

Better, but still not as good as the version they released on SACD.

If anyone wants both tracks so they can compare, let me know! :D

LOL I do too. Sometimes it makes me frustrated and I can't keep reading...which in itself is pretty silly.

We used to demo this album because it subjectively sounded great. Objectively, it is not great. But subjectively, it sounded great. :D

That's why I don't mind DRC so much. I know it's objectively "bad", but if they sound so great subjectively, I'm not going to lose any sleep. :D

IOW, I would rather listen to a DR8 album that sounded great to me subjectively, than listen to a DR20 album that sounded bad to me. :D

You officially have too many speakers in one room.

I forbid you from buying another speaker until you get at least 4 more rooms! :D :p ;)

The Orion, Phil, and Salon 2 should be in their own large rooms!! :D :D
Yes, no more speakers and amps for me.

Money will now go into the BUY BIGGER HOUSE Funds. :D

I'm afraid I have to invoke the dreaded meter for that statement.

:D Now does that statement come with a pinky swear ?
Is there another brand of speakers that is ultra-accurate (Frequency Response confirmed by NRC or Stereophile) and has a flagship that costs $80K or more? :D

Harman, TAD - $80K (ultra accurate)
ATC, B&W - $80K (medium accurate)
KEF - $160K (ultra accurate)
Focal - $190K (medium accurate)
Dynaudio -$100K (medium accurate)
