So W.A.F. played into this one, but it looks like the kind gentleman at Best Buy was able to convince her that the Pioneers are the way to go and thus I will be going with that speaker selection. He did however suggest I NOT get the HSU VTF-2 (it would drown out the speakers and costs too much) and just get 2 of the SW-8MK2 instead. Thoughts?!
Good speaker choice - go with the HSU, it has volume control.:)

Yeah I figured I could always turn it down if need be. So now maybe I can upgrade the receiver with extra money in my budget. Don't care about features, just sound quality...

EDIT: Prob going with this:

front: Pioneer SP-FS52 (x2)--
center: Pioneer SP-C22------$399 shipped TigerDirect
rear: Pioneer SP-BS22-LR----
sub: HSU VTF-2 MK4 $612 shipped
receiver: Denon 2113CI $411 shipped A4L
Total = $1422

Is the 18gauge speaker wire that I have run from my Z-5500 surround sound setup good enough?

Here's a general guideline of wire gauge vs wire length vs the speaker's impedance. I usually presume a 4 ohm load with 8 ohm nominal speakers to be a bit conservative.

Wire is wire, if it is the proper guage according to the need.
I like 14 awg for all my stuff, as long as it does not require
12 awg. I for the most part do not like anything 18 guage or
smaller - that is just me, and I feel good doing that.:)

However, here is a chart for some guidence. Have fun.

Heh, I guess I forgot to post the link...brain must not be functioning properly. In any case, I was going to post the same table as zieglj01.
